View Full Version : Arma:2 Pr Issues

I've been having some real issues with my FPS in Arma 2 PR. No matter how low I drop my video settings, my FPS rarely goes above 30.
Max settings get roughly the same amount of Frams as the lowest settings. Making it almost impossible to play.
Some one mentioned this could be caused by my CPU making a bottleneck and ruining my FPS.
Until about an hour ago I have been running my core i7 920 overcloced to 3.20 GHZ.
(I done a CPU reinstal today after having issues with my frame rate) It's now back at default settings. I've installed the latest video drivers as well.
My System specs are.
win7 64
corei7 920
4.00gb ram
radeon 5850
evga x58 sli
Any help would be greatly appreciated, as I want to play PR!!!!

Can you confirm that FPS are fine in vanilla A2?

Roughly about the same performance between the two. Nilla runs just slightly better.

What type of HDD do you run? That can sometimes be a bottleneck in ArmA, as it does rely a lot more on your HDD than other games. But as long as its a ~7200rpm drive or better there should be no issues. Also, check your 3D resolution (its right under the game resolution) it will severely affect FPS, and also turn of Post Processing.

Well my HD is getting on now. It's about a 3-4 year's old now.
I'm sure this could be the issue.
I might have to purchase another and sldo get an SSD to run my games off.

You don't need an SSD, they're still too expensive (imo) anyway, give it a year/2 and then get one, that's what Im doing :P
I am running a WD 7200RPM BLACK, (Black just means it's 7200rpm) and it runs the game fine, however I'm going to be investing in a second 6870 soon if that gives any idea as to how much it still does require to run puuurtyyy :P

It would be nice to run it all purty like. But I'm happy with mid-high-ish?
This one looks ok.

mate i got a i7 920 running at stock with a gtx285 and 6 gig of ram and with most the settings high im looking at 30 - 50 fps with 125% 3d res and a 6000m VD. if your expected to get 60 - 80 fps with anything less than a damn super computer then your going to be disapointed.
One thing you could try is to do this when ingame (actualy in a server on the ground, or place yourself in the editor and start it) go left ctrl + left shift + num pad minus + typing flush. your screen will go black with some text in the corner saying flushing cache or something like that. this will just flush out your graphics cache and can increase preformance.

Despite what chanvlan says a SSD can only improve gameplay (unless its dodgey) , textures and model requests from the HDD happen alot and in large quantities in A2 so HDD is need.
basically, for max settings you might need
1xssd
2 x 580
1x quad or 6 core intel i7 @ 3.7-4.5 @
ram (being a 32bit game, large ram isn't essential (unless you run other things like me)
all for probs 10k vd,max shadows & textures and models, probs 150 - 200 % 3D res or max AA. Friend with 2x 480's runs on 5k vd & 300% 3D res AND max aa (which is POINTLESS) but anyway...
I find my game doesn't perform as well as it used to when my comp was new, probably because of all the CRAP that is filling up the HDD now!
Rhodesy_77
4th September 2011, 07:11 PM
2 x 580's it just not needed. several people have 1 x 570 i7 (not sure wat model) and 4 gig and can run the game all very high and 10k VD. and they get around 40-50 fps which honestly is all you need with arma.

An SSD makes Arma2 fly.
On a conventional hard drive ArmA2 performs so badly.

Okay so I've potentially found the source of my problem. When looking at my system properties in my computer it tells me I have.
"4.00Gb of RAM (1.99 GB usable)"
It explains why my memory has been running so high, and why my PC has been so slow. So how do I fix that?

They are in the 2nd and 4th slots.
As it turns out I can't play Bf2 either, this memory thing has rooted my PC.

Sounds like you may have a faulty ram stick. Sometimes the bios will report that 4Gb is installed but windows sees the error on the stick and removes it from use. Easiest way to check is download Memtest from http://www.memtest.org/ and create a bootable cd which you can then use to test all 4Gb of memory.
If there is a fault reported by Memtest just try removing the memory and reseating and re-test to confirm it not just a connector issue.

don't know wether its my bios, or bios' in general but there should be an option in there somewhere to change how much ram the motherboard is using, mine was running 3Gb but i went into it and changed it to 3.5gb so jsut check your bios for that as well.
in the worst circumstance one of your RAM chips could have died.

I'm pretty certain I have myself a dodgy DDR slot. Both sticks work in the primary slot but neither of them work in the other slot.
Might have to get in contact with Evga and get me a newie!

Max settings get roughly the same amount of Frams as the lowest settings.
I've found the settings & even resolution makes SFA difference compared to other games, running 1024 x 768 compared to 1920 x 1080 I only gain about 10FPS at the best of times, between low & very/high settings I find only about another 10FPS.
The main thing I found to improve my FPS was to turn off post processing. You really don't need high FPS for ARMA 2 IMHO, anything above 30 is playable.
I run
ASUS M4A79XTD EVO
AMD Phenom Quad Core 965 3.4 ghz
ASUS ATI 5770 x 2 crossfire
8 GGD DDR133 RAM
All non OC'd & I average 30 - 40 on High, 1920 x 1080 with PP off, does dip around 20's at times,
I think you're system is fine.

Did you try going to your games library > arma2> properties and then verifying the integrity of game cache?
For me to get it to work I had to re-install arma 2 and verify both that and AO.
Was a massive stuff around but I got it, I followed the instructions of the PR forums. I'll try find you the link.

A few tips that might work for someone who has a Steam copy of ARMA2 and boxed copy of ARMA2 OA
Make sure you install your steam copy first, verify the game though steam.
Install your Boxed copy of Operation Arrowhead.
This should then give you a icon called Combined Operations.
Install Operation Arrowhead 1.59 Update
Install PR ARMA 2 0.1.
Now, You might find the game will stop launching from the PRAA.EXE file. But......... If you use your Operation Arrowhead / Combined Op exe to launch the game, you can then select Expansions in the game. Make sure PR is selected. It will then restart the game and all should be well if you keep using the Combined OP/ OA exe to start the game.

just install it in order and use arma2 launcher or the six-updater launcher for your mods that don't have the .exe on the desktop like Arma:PR does.
Not really that hard.

I swear sometimes technology gets the better of us, but it is NOT hard to INSTALL, it is just having errors once installed, if you dont know how to install a file, follow this:
1.download file
2.double click the .exe file
3.????

K, then you can spend the time to collect all the info and write it up and keep it up to date. Otherwise its outdated like these threads :http://www.bigdgaming.net/forumdisplay.php?f=1 34
All of them were 'stickied', and they are now out of date.
How did I learn eveything I know about ArmA? I searched google. A Lot. And went on the AusArmA TS and found people who knew what they were doing, even they aren't helpful 90% of the time cause they don't feel like wasting time doing something which can be fixed with a simple google search. Or if the google fails, go to the AusArmA Forums, and the Bohemia Interactive forums.
That said, I AM happy to help out WHEN I have the time. That's why I made a video instructing people on how to us the six updater and ace etc with Steam.
My advice; google. And if you dont understand, google again. You will only learn and understand ArmA through trial and error.
Sorry if I sound harsh, but this is the truth of ArmA, it is a ruthless game.

Easier just to ask questions on the forum (Try a quick google first though). There are plenty of people who would be glad to help. Just tell us what you need help with.

You are talking about a DSL router right?
I'm using the Orcon Genius - which is just the Bob with a diferent sticker on it.
I haven't done any port mapping, and it works just fine.
BattleEye is a little sensitive to timeouts. If you're connecting over wireless, you might wanna try a cable to see if it improves things.
