View Full Version : A question about Arma 2 PR

I have played arma2 in the past and after seeing the post on the front page I thought I would give PR arma a shot. So last night I jumped on the american server I think, around 200 ping.
It might just be me but first thing I encountered was really sluggish controls, not that the sensitivity was poor but I would move my mouse and a few moments later my head would whip around. Maybe some one who has played a bit could comment? is this just me being ignorant? or some setting?
And also can I turn off the blur? its a bit hard on the eyes.
Cheers

You can turn the blur off by turning your post-processing effects down to very low or off. maybe your movement could have been affected by ping? try loading up a local server first and see if that fixes it.

turn post processing off in your graphics and also match your resolutions together.
As for the mouse lag no idea

Turn mouse smoothing to zero. Started enjoying the game more after i done that although its not to everyone liking. For some reason I found it better in the original Operation Flashpoint than Ive found it in Arma 2 :/

Don't touch the smoothing, then all your movements will look 'bouncy', snappy and well not smooth, don't have to have it on full however.
What your probably wanting, it's what I find most people coming from other shooters mean, is the aiming deadzone, take it to zero and it will be more what your used to.

Thanks all for the ideas, I'm keen to make the experience a good'n as the game looks great and i love all those vehicles.
I'll try and give it another lash tonight....screw it i'll just quit my job and go home now
*EDIT*
No i wont.

Reduce head bob helps too. The aiming dead zone is what you wanted to fix your issue. Post processing off or very low is my preference.
Viewdistance and difficulty settings are set from the mission, so don't worry too much about those.

With settings reduced, regain some purty with these recent config graphical options HERE (http://community.bistudio.c om/wiki/arma2.cfg) atoc etc.:hi:

well I tried all of the suggestions here on vanilla Arma 2 and it has helped greatly, Thank you everyone.
Also I spent the weekend annoying everyone on the ARMA 2 servers learning the ropes so hopefully I can Now jump in to PRARMA and get some!
Thanks Again.

ARMA 2 is a big step from BF2, I absolutely hated it when first installed & noticed the same issues as you. Post processing needs to go & if you join a server that allows you turn grass off DO IT! It can be confusing as there are several different types of gameplay but I'll basically list the most popular on ARMA 2 Vanilla;
I strongly suggest you learn ARMA 2 vanilla first prior to PARMA & download the JSSR sound mod as the vanilla sound are crap! (most servers allow it)
Domination - All human players on one side, you have a base, a stack of weapons & assets with the primary task to capture the specified town from the AI (which are heavily armed), there are also side missions which give you rewards (bonus vehicles). A good one for beginners & probably has the most team-work & VOIP.
Warfare - Two teams (Blue & Opfor) with both Human & AI players, your start out in different positions on the map with a HQ, Ambulance (mobile re-spawn) & a truck. Your mission is to capture towns which are initially AI held, the more towns the more money, supply which means you can afford better toys. Eventually you'll get bigger & betters toys & run into the opposite team and attempt to capture each others towns & attack bases. You can command AI rather than just running around by yourself in a tank, chopper etc, the games can also go for hours & hours & the winner is determined by destroying all the enemies buildings & HQ, a lot learn in this mod.
Insurgency - Somewhat similar to PR, most players on one side & you fight the insurgents (AI) who will drop intel, this leads to finding caches & winning the game. It's pretty fun & can bring good team-work, vehicles are generally limited & squad work needed.
Life mods - A cops & robbers version, most players are civilians (the would be robbers) and you can get a job, weapons, licenses, rob banks/service stations, assassinate, murder etc. It's fun however can be ruined by a single idiot who doesn't play by the rules (you can't murder just anybody or arrest innocent people etc), can also be buggy.
Never underestimate the AI, they can be tricky & probably the most advanced I've seen!

CO = A2 + OA
Ignore BAF/PMC until you get CO working correctly.
DayZ has preplaced item locations, but the items that spawn there are random.
yeah thanks kush, had the base game running fine, just not the combination of addons etc... thanks
hey peeps,
keeping threads clean and all (edit, lol wrong thread...), just wanted to start a local single player game running the DayZ
mod....
when setting up a dedicated server, there is NO DayZ mission,
but quite a few others from ACE etc.....??
how to do yah?

Cant really run the DayZ Mod without a bunch of scripts and EXE files that are not released for the public, you can find the mission file somewhere here:
C:\Documents and Settings\username\My Documents\ArmA 2
But even if you copy the mission file to the Mission folder in the game directory the mission cannot be run, so at this moment in time you cannot play DayZ mod SP
Which kinda sucks

Yeah its also annoying that there was 2 OZ servers now only one which is always full at night, and seeing as i only can join the server at night, playing in the dark hours on end is getting too much, next best thing is join a US server when you join at night AEST and you get glorious sunlight

They were bought separately ages ago, my PMC and BAF will NOT install.
They are being run as admin, the extracting starts and finishes, then flashes
the splash screen of PMC or BAF (iirc this would then lead to the serial entry
and finalise the install)... windows pops up saying install using rec settings
blah blah blah.....
So I just used 7Z to extract the files, even the extracted setup exe does the
same as before..
Now im not sure which out of all the files is needed...
Im thinking that i just need to make a PMC and BAF folder with contents
such as:
PMC/
Addons/(all PMC .pbo's)
desktop.ico
mod.cpp
mod.paa
BAF identical process..
Only thing is if thats all i need to do, what about the keys? inside the 7Z
extracted folders there is a 'license' file?
what to do...

hey man, no I've re downloaded everything. all patched to the latest
arma 2 is 1.11.86.....
OA is 1.60.87.....
PMC is 1.2
BAF is 1.2
Ive added the BAF and PMC folders. The game recognises theyre 'there' but cannot get to any missions etc. im thinking some registry issue?
Could someone please post a screeny of their folders and contents?
cheers,
