I've decided to create a series of videos that chronicle matches on the Bigdy server, with myself as Squad Leader and whoever is in my squad at the time. Since Bigdy doesn't have Battlerecorder, they're going to be FRAPS footage from my perspective (advantageous as all squad communication is retained). I figure they'd be a great resource for myself and others to look back on and see what went right and what went horribly wrong on the battlefield, as well as to identify areas I can improve upon to become a better Squad Leader.
Day 1, as I'm calling it, took place last night on Road to Kyongan'Ni. The complete and unedited round has been uploaded to YouTube in four parts (due to YouTube's ten minute duration limit) and follows our squad in what turned out to be one of the best matches I've had in the mod yet.
My squad members for the round were:
(ST) Captain_Wolf
=FA= Rukudo
=T&A*= CHARGER_76
TOG| mistere68
TOG| POSCrash
[b]Part 1 - Rollout, Squad Composition, Repositioning and Ambushing
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0Inb7UTZKF4
My attempt to employ my regular tactic was unfortunately denied as the enemy made a rapid forward push to secure the vital central flag. We perservered, hoping the other Squad would keep them from Airport, but to no avail. Our hand forced, we regrouped and fell back to secure our rear capture point, setting up a fantastically co-ordinated ambush on the enemy armour along the way. My ultimate shortcoming in this segment was my unwillingness to fall back, resulting in us arriving to save the day later than we should have been. I was also a little too eager to try out formations and fireteams when the situation did not call for it.
Part 2 - Regrouping, Advancing, Patience and the Unorthodox
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZSb6toqIAnI
With Airport secure, I decide to re-attempt our initial push up to Estate. Things go well, with a couple squaddies showing some ingenuity by using the boat as a forward scouting system, but it ultimately turns pear-shaped. We were overconfident and I did not order a retreat, resulting in the squad being wiped out. Because of this I make another key error in judgement, forgetting to request the Officer's kit on respawn and leaving us without a forward rally point. We should have taken a moment to regroup and gotten a class with binoculars to garner a definite visual on the marksman who was pinning us.
Part 3 - Subversion, Supression and Aggressive Urban Assault
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OSPawObDoSI
Upon finally making a successful push up to Estate and the removal of the Chinese rallypoint thereabouts we effectively cut off all reinforcements from that forward position, a move that turns the tide of the battle. My lack of Officer's kit becomes a boon as I'm able to keep the squad and myself alive during these next confrontations. We disillusion the enemy with the destruction of their transport and charge Kyongan'Ni's northern entrance, taking up defensive positions. Multiple waves of hostiles assault us as we neutralise the flag, and the squad mounts a commendable defence against these odds. Though we eventually win the position, it could have gone a lot smoother. I believe I remained on the roof for too long, making our position obvious to the enemy and hindering our spawning abilities. Communication between the squad also became slightly lax, and my lack of knowledge of the city's layout negated the conveyal of any useful tactical information.
Part 4 - Advancing, Overwhelming and Victory
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1mQ7uLSW5VY
We secure Kyongan'Ni and immediately push up to Estate, aided by the earlier destruction of it's rally point. With little resistance encountered, we capture and hold the flag for the remainder of the round. It is at this point that China, who were in the lead up until this point, were overtaken by us with around twenty tickets to go. In these tense, final moments, the squad manages to destroy their oncoming transport chopper, securing our victory with 14 - 0. Excellent communication and co-ordination from the squad across the board in this last segment.
(Apologies for the low quality. It is difficult to see the details thanks to YouTube's mega-compression. I'll try to find a way around this for future entries - Google Video perhaps?)
