View Full Version : Insurgents get thumped on Al Basrah

I was playing Al Basrah last night between 7pm & 8:30 on the US side. Not sure what was happening on the Insurgents side but we managed to push them all the way to their last flag. The only thing that stopped us from completely overtaking them were a few pesky Insurgents who kept sneeking into Industry to neutralize it.

It certainly made for a more geographically interesting game than the normal facility back and forth.

Regardless of the initial lag, I've been enjoying Al Basrah alot lately whether I'm US or Insurgent.

Lastly, It would be good to hear some other people's perspective on the game last night. Particularly from the Insurgents' point of view.

Yes... Must say that was most enjoyable.... actually was shooting straight too.... The fight got a bit more intense near the end, but, excellent team effort from us yanks!

Well done to all...

Well I like Al Basrah much more in 0.6 than in 0.5... with the Facility flag gone, it gives you much more room in the city to move around, and then with the new Industry and Mosque in the same flag group, It gives the Brits more of a chance of having a win. Yet, I played on Tuesday night on Al Basrah, and the US pushed them back to Industry. It was great seeing the entire team at Facility, and not one person at Airport, and only 1 person in a transport chopper flying close support and transport for his squad. Seems that Wednesday night the US team improved even more.

Joined late in the game, but even in the 10 mins I was there had an excellent fight (think i was in your squad, Andy). Yeah, games like that are the best.

0.6 Al Basarah is excellent too - on one hand the Insurgents can cap village back and go onto Vehicle Outpost. On the other, facility is gone and after village the UK can hit either Industry or Mosque. :D It's going to be so awesome.

They let your tanks and APCs survive for too long. The key in that map, for insurgents, is to destroy the US tanks and APCs. If the US keep them they have a technological advantage that isn't easily solved. The A10s and Cobras arn't such a problem as they go as quickly as they come and cant provide long-lasting support like the armoured vehicles can. This is why Lucid and I make it out mission to blow them up at all costs as it is pretty pivotal to Insurgency success.

got like 21 kills in the APC in that round, alt-tabbed out then back in, and found a tank staring at me.

great squad work in the US won it for us, one squad locking down a flag tight wit the rest moving on to the next.

control of the land assets in Basarah is the way to win it

My technical issues with Albashrah aside I find that many new players have a great deal of trouble knowing exactly what there doing on that map and it cause's are bad balancing issues giving the insurgents equipment or lack there of.

In my experience the No. 1 reason that the Americans loose all the time is because they are obsessed with the abundance of vehicles on the map and you never have any boots on the ground, not to mention the pilots in particular have no idea what they are doing and teamkill more allies than anything else. If half the team is tooling around then that means the insurgents have a 2 to 1 advantage where the actually fighting takes place.
Therefore the insurgents almost always win.

I would think it has more to do with the extremely high ticket lose that the US incur the same result's often happen on Helmand even though the entire English side is putting 110% into the game. Granted most times I have played 64player albasrah I have seen more vanilla 'mine mine mine' vehicle use that actual infantry/squad based combat. However the US generally lose on 32 player as well because of the ticket lose not to the insurgents ability to get into place's that are inaccessible to the US.

I definitely agree here. Vehicles can be counter-productive at times when infantry need to be securing the streets not driving around.

Yup. Rarely have I ever seen an A10 bombing run followed by a ground assault.

Meant to post this last night straight after Vis-one's first post, so, keep that in mind (my net was screwing up)

....bad balancing issues giving the insurgents equipment or lack there of....

We have IEDs and Motorcycles, what more could we ask for? :D  :P :P

Honestly, you're the founding father of the Jihad All-stars, you should know that the insurgents are perfectly equipped to perform the role they are designed for, ambushing and annoyance tactics. :P

In a straight up fight, they lose, simple as that but the insurgents are very much suited to the intended gameplay. They are lightly armoured but give them a chance to IED you and you're gone. If you dont look behind you often enough, you may very well end up with a back full of badly grouped lead. They have grapples to aid this, nobody expects to be nailed from an inaccess-able building. Pity that doesnt get used more often in my opinon.

Badly balanced? No
Poorly equipped? yes
Would they lose horribly if both sides were populated by experienced players? I personally dont think so because an organised Insurgent team is as deadly as any other team, they just use different tactics

My 2 cents, sorry if any offence was taken, none was meant

Alex

True enough as a true warrior of allah I retract all statements the mighty warriors of allah have the ultimate weapon FAITH and the glorious knowledge of 40 virgins in the after life. Now if only we can get some more Jihad All-Stars we might finally get some good games on Helmand and Albasrah.

Join Lucid and myself, our games are funny to say the least..... (Jihading the refueling A10s, hilarious, particularly when you hear the pilot screaming over global about how cheap it is when the whole team has been suffering it a lot more before he did)

Slightly off-topic but I'd like to test my theory out. Could the next member night be Al Basrah first up? Doesn't need to be a theme to it but I would seiously like to see 2 organised teams go against each other on that map

The only way I can see the US countering Lucid and Chicken's suicide bombings is with a hefty dose of Cobra venom.

Lucid is right. The 32 player version puts the emphasis on infantry combat. On 64 you'll be lucky to find 1 US squad attacking facility because everyone wants the air assests and vehicles get jihaded before they can reach the city.

32 has brought balance back to Al Basrah. What I find funny is the fact that those on the US side still havent caught on that Residential is cappable right after facility. They all head for mosque. As insurgents we have rarely had to defend Res so far.

RE: spawn cars. They get wasted on 64 too. Its just a matter of educating the new players and kicking the tards.
