So what do you actually like about PR? What keeps you coming back? (other than myself, of course  )

id like to say the realism, but thats too obvious.
I think it is now like a nice warm blanket. I know the game reasonably well and can snuggle down with it in the evening for a few hours and have some fun times.
I think the community has alot to do with it as well. Everyone loves to go to a familiar place and hang out. The majority of players and forum members are great blokes.
Its also my baby. For some reason i feel compelled to help build the community. I started out with 6 players and two admins. The other left very soon after the forums were up. Now well what can i say, we are the monster we are.
Well done guys.

As Darth said, the community. I remember when it was a good round if we could get 5-7 players in. Now we have an average of 12ish I think and two servers.
Awesome!

The teamwork.
Pulling together as a squad to get the job done.
The satisfaction of getting that job done.
The laughs as well - there are some funny guys here, and some funny things happen on the servers.
I like to help with things I feel passionate about, so taking some of the load off Darth so he can get some game time back is the least I can do.

yeah obviously the teamwork and realism, but also that the bf2 engine, despite all the hardcoded crap, is the most stable engine currently for good graphics, large amounts of players and air and ground armor combat, infantry combat, and now 17 sq km maps :D . no other games i know of combine this with the teamwork only possible in the bf2 engine thanks to squads and voip, and in PR the players utilise this properly.
thats why i keep coming back to PR :D

I enjoy(ed):
* the high level of maturity between players.
* the high level of mutual respect between players.
* the lack of cheap tactics and the intense "front lines" action that (used to be) the center point of game play.
* the squad team work.
* the entire side team work.
* the humour in the squad when people were enjoying themselves.
I'm hanging out for 0.6, hopefully the new players will of gotten used to the game a bit more and wisened up a little and the regulars who have started slipping into old habbits will come back to the light side.
Alot of this will be brought back in time!

It is the teamwork and tactics for me - I love a well-executed squad insertion from a chopper to capture a flag, or moving through the streets with your squaddies taking out the baddies left and right. Also the idea that even if you cannot shoot or aim as fast as others with a quicker net connection or computer parts etc that you can be quite effective through tactical play.

I keep playing because no 2 games are the same, at least not the way I play.

+1 Rogue leader - this is the beauty of multiplayer gaming.
I have a shiny copy of Oblivion at home, I love RPGs, but I can't seem to play it. PR wins.

I do miss my F-35 though. Love raping J-10's with that heap.

The fact that I can be an army guy, using army tactics and weapons, without actually being shot at (not a big issue for me) or having to put up with all the crap that has been introduced into our armed forces (IMO, bit of a stretch seeing I haven't expreienced it myself and apologies to those who have served and had nothing but good experiences).
The PR dev team that want the same from the PR experience as I do.
Being able to lead fellow soldiers into battle, gaining their respect and trust.
Playing against other human minds and not AI, so unpredictable and much more challenging.
VOIP, VOIP, VOIP and the SQUAD structuring in this game. Communication is key to a game like this and it makes this game what it is. Also being able to have a more personal contact with your fellow players, espeically when something extremly funny happens and is shared between fellow squaddies.
The AAS gameplay structure, AASv2 needs some tweaks (0.6 patch) but will evolve to an optimal level.
The fact that the majority of people play this game for the reasons stated in this entire post, which has built a kick arse community, lead by a great bunch of blokes that put in so much effort that gives everyone else so much enjoyment.
I could go on and on and on....but won't....yet.

I mainly play it due to the team work and the people in general are good for a laugh.
And it's something I can still play when intoxicated without hurting myself.

I keep coming back for the teamwork.
It aint too much fun being in a squad that doesn't work together. I actually prefer someone barking orders at me than not saying anything.

And the tanks, don't forget the tanks......

My new love is the flying brick, also known as the Blackhawk. While the littlebird is fast and manueverable the Blackhawk can and did absorb a number of rpg hits between repairs.
Having a squadie man the mini as you straife soldiers in the hills is icing on the cake. At one point Sniping-Ghost sat on the side with his Heavy AT kit, turning the Blackhawk into long range killer.

Lol I once had on of my squadies hanging off the little bird with heavy AT we managed to take out 2 tanks an APC and an enemy attack Heli LMAO that was awesome.
OT: Teamwork and mature gamers and VOIP is what I'm here for and as long as they stay so will I.

What they said,
Realism
Teamwork
Tactics
Great community
Great admins
A good laugh
Maturity between players
Mutual respect between players
Voip
Actually being able to kill something you shoot at
Very little or no tools
Every game is different
I love it! :D

Taking someone down in 3 shots with the M16 (ie. single burst) is a rare feat and definitely one to be proud of.

Its an adaptation of a trick Amril showed me in CS, aim for the mid-upper chest and let the recoil drag the gun up to the head. At the time he was talking about 2shot bursts from the AK47 but the same still applies for the M16. Aim at the middle of the chest and control the recoil to hit thier head. Hard to get right, but awesome if it works

I would hardly call it hard to take people down with the m16 I personally find it the best ironsight rifle over range in the entire mod. However its a real pain in the arse when your in the QBD maps or trying to shoot though the dam fences.

1) I wouldn't say its the easiest gun to kill with, I've seen bodyarmour-toting blokes survive 6 chest shots where the G3 or Type 95 (?) kills with 3.
2) I agree its the best ironsight gun out there, seems a lot less restrictive that the G3 or Chinese rifle for some reason

M16 is fantastic.
3 round burst is basically automatic if you can click fast enough. Not to mention its deadly accurate.
rogue leader
3rd June 2007, 06:48 PM
Maybe I just can't read the sights properly with the M16. At long range I am dead accurate with the G3 and at close range the auto fire seems to lock onto the enemy. The G3 also feels more powerful.
When an enemy goes prone and Im on burst with the M16, my first bullet always hits in front of him while the second and third go over the top of him.
On single fire I generally have to hit them 3 times in the chest to drop them. When I first started playing (v0.3) the M16 felt much more powerful.
At medium distance, say 25m to 50m you almost have to aim at their feet if you are in burst fire with the M16, where as with an automatic the spray pattern seems much narrower.
Judging by the comments of others in-game, I'm not the only one who has problems the M16. I'm starting to think that the Devs hate the US what with the lack of scopes, autos, US friendly maps.
Anyway, to keep on topic: I love the G3!
daveee
3rd June 2007, 07:17 PM
G3 is 7.62mm whereas the M16 is 5.56 IIRC.
I tend not to aim with the sights on the M16 when I go burst fire in CQB situations unless the person hasn't seen me and I have time to aim and nail them dead on. Might explain why I get better results than some with it.
1GeKKo3
3rd June 2007, 09:21 PM
I 'now' have no problems with the M16, burst fire hardly ever lets me down and single iron sights is premium, can get head shots at very long distances if the target is stationary. G3 is more powerful at close range, not so good with distance head shots. But have no preferemce when taking into battle. G3 was also crap in vanilla and took a while to get use to in PR. I have my accuracy over 26% with assault rifles which is higher than vanilla and BFV, use to be around 22%. Favourite gun in the game is the L85 scoped rifle. Love the sights and the accuracy.
preferemce - WTF is this word meant to be Performance or Preference ? - Vis

I like PR for the way forum threads always go off topic.
I also like doing burnouts in the desert in Al Basrah in the Landrovers in v0.6.
I like the word 'in'.

Scoped QBZ only problem for me is the fact that my video setting are all low and the cross hair on the scope is fuzzy and easily lost in backgrounds. Hard to get head shots sometimes.

the community team effort afforded in game play is great. BF2 in general is more about gaining rank and points and more individually orintated. Where PR is about teams and group efforts. Its great to jump into a game and find people following instructions of their team leaders. I also like the reality of the game.
Where else do u find a game where u sneak around for 10 mins without being shot and then u find a set of legs standing in front of u unloading a clip of bullets into your body. ohh boy im excited....anyone up for a game??

yep that's it Sandy,...the realism of being hit ,starting to bleed out, and hoping like hell you get a kill shot off before you die or the enemy gets your squad mate's, then praying for the medic to make it in time.

aside from the obvious i reckon the best thing is the SOUND!
The sound fx are awesome, i've got usb single sided mic to hear VOIP thru and THX 5.1 setup with X-FI enabled, but even without having to sell my ass on the street corner every night to afford this excessivley expensive equiptment, i still reckon the SOUND tops the list (aside from the obvious: teamwork, realism)
Dont you just hate nilla with the constant radio voices

The wizz and snap of nearby shots actually makes suppressing fire work coz it makes players **** themselves. And you can actually hear a tank/heli/etc from a really long distance away unlike vannila where they make so little noise they can sneak up on you.

I am green at this game, about three days play. So far I can say the tactics, maturity and the community is what I love at the moment. I see people I recognise in game and make it a habit to join their squads because I know they will lead the squad not just make one. Players like Aestabjoo, Photoshop, Rukudo are the main ones I can remember. Don't be surprised if I'm in your squad the second you create it :)

Depends really, as whilst you may complete objectives you may cost your team a disproportionate amount of tickets to the objectives worth.
I always keep an eye on my squads KDR, and give orders to play more conservatively if we need to pull back a ticket deficit. Also, a tactical retreat is better than dying and having to wait/costing your team tickets. IMO
