Never been paint balling. Heard its good though you need to be fit (not me).
Wouldn't mind giving it a go as long as you don't mind an old fart coming along.

My girlfriend is coming too, if we get enough people we can get a group rate. Let's do it before summer though as I don't know how much running around I'll do in the Aussie heat without colapsing from heat stroke.

Im 35 myself so don't worry about the age thing althouggh aussie has been threatening to pop a cap into the slow ones. :)

I was thinking about early-mid September. The weather is a bit nicer then but not too hot.

Wouldn't mind a bush setting with a bit more of a military feel to it. I'll do a bit of research and find out whats available. If anyone has any ideas pls chime up. :)

I think most places give you overalls but if you want to go all out, why not?

Anyone actually played paintball? I am more than willing to organise this but need some advice :)

Best place in Melbourne locations all run by the same company. The one Hatter, robo and capition also myself went to is located on that site in:

Cockatoo: rating: isnt toooo bad :)

Iv got my own personal gear such as:

Helmet.
Paintball Jersey.
Gloves.
Scrim.
Proper paintball ammo webbing.
Ammo magz as I like to call them wmahhaa...

I used to have all my own gear but sold it before I went travelling and need to replacew it all.

The overalls are usually blue and red or some other colour. I don't know about Australia but I'd like to go all out!

Tip, if you got a cup wear it. Getting shot in the nuts is not fun.

Aus Sniper01

Nope, you get Aus camo overalls thats 1 team and the others get US dark camo woodland camo pants.
Now if you guys want I have porper Aus military grip handle gloves with good aussie camo over them, so yeah if you want 1 person can have them the day..or swap them around.

householddog

That place is exactly what I was looking for. How many people were playing when you were there?

Aus Sniper01
3rd August 2007, 12:57 PM
When we went we had my dad friends mates with us and that was about 30, but just ask when ya call up when theres other groups and then we can PR there ass and stuff, sometimes u may be up against 15 maybe 10 but its still worth it.

Aus Sniper01
3rd August 2007, 01:04 PM
oh by the way IF this still does go ahead, all paintball places sell a weapon called " Paintball Grenade" this place at Cockatoo sells them I THINK for $10 bucks each.
Your common reaction is OMG u pull the pin and it goes BOOM! Wrong sunshine :P the nades need to be able to hit something very hard for it to go boom, meaning very good for bunkers.
So they waste of money...

Yeah ill give them a bit of a call later on but might see how many people are interested first so we can talk deals.

As for what we shoudl be asking for: Full day package or half? Im a bit partial on the full. How many paintballs would we realistically use BTW?

If i see a paintball grenade I swear I will dive on it... :)

Aus Sniper01
3rd August 2007, 01:12 PM
I like full :) Simply because its bloody fun! and u do all the courses!

Other qustion I usually use about 800-900 rounds that myself, sometimes u will get a deal Im pretty sure we would all get 200 Free paintballs to start off with then after that u pay say for instanse 20 bucks for every 100 rounds...which they come in a small bag.

EDIT: It says that they sell every 100 rounds per bag $22

For a good day of not counting shots 2000 is good. It depends on how quickly you die really.

My record for a single round was 19 dudes out of 24. Best part is I had a witness who got really into it after and told people about that round. The reason it is an even more of a mention is that I did it with a paintball gun called a Stingray. Even the field guns where petter than that POS and could our range me. I had to arc balls at people.

The funniest one was this dude in a tyre bunker. I was prone in the open well within range of him. All I had to shoot at was three fist size holes and every time I saw movement a ball came sailing through. There was a ref standing there watching the whole thing laughing his ass off. I don't think I even actually shot him and that he gave up. He just had no chance is especially as I was in the perfect firing position and could have shot at him all day.

The most ballsy was a single rush attack on a three man bunker. My friend Chuck, I mentioned him in another thread kept being all sneaky and I kept yelling out his position hoping the dudes would shoot him as he was upsetting me with the delay as I could hear other guys coming. I had no choice and rushed alone killing all three and taking the position and started shooting at the new guys coming in.

It was the best round ever and I doubt I could do it again so I am glad that I had a witness for it all.

Paintball is super fun.

Going back to the time Hatter and the rest of us went, lol I told hatter and Captin to take the right flank since we were starting at the bottom of the hill. Rob and I were teamed up and supressing fire while the rest assaulted lol anyway this was when I didnt have my personal $180 mask, anyway Robs mask and my mask were fogging up so dam bad that we couldnt see **** for sugar.

So I looked at him and said screw this lets just run straight at the bunker, I mean come on we couldnt see and u cant take ur masks off * obvious reasons. So Rob and I assaulted and I could JUST see Rob and he got balled at least 9 times and yet he slidd down the front of the bunker with 14 barrels aiming 2 feet from him at him lmfao! im running and I got hit on the top of my right shoulder.

LOL see Rob slide down arms wide open yelling out Medic! lool  good times....

I was jsut thinking which package we should get.
http://www.paintballgames.c om.au/paintball_frame.htm
Pro/Extreme/Terminator. Or just leave it to the individual?
It would make it much easier to organise just going with one package and letting people buy extra balls as needed *insert joke here*.

Also which ground did you play on Aussie? Ballan? Which ones are in the photos?

CDN-SMOKEJUMPER
3rd August 2007, 01:58 PM
Wow, this is going to be really really fun!!!

I'll let the other half know so we can start setting money aside for it.

Aus Sniper01
3rd August 2007, 02:04 PM
I would go with the full day package.

With the photos question, they do not have any that I recall of Cockatoo. But yes I do recommend we go with the FULL DAY package which is the $80 deal. Course after you run out of the 300 rounds in the package you then have to start paying for the extras:

Just inquire how much the extra rounds are when ya call up..

householddog
3rd August 2007, 02:13 PM
I was thinking maybe a bigger package like the 500/700 ball package. It sounds like 300 balls is just not going to be enough in any mans language And it will work out a bit cheaper in the long run.

I want to find a point where everyone will run out of ammo. I guess everyone will run out of ammo with only 300. Will everyone run out of ammo a 500?

How many did you use on the day Aussie?

Aus Sniper01
3rd August 2007, 02:19 PM
It seriously depends on the invidual on the day and how his nervouse his finger is mate :P. Because put it this way you its up to the INDIVIDUAL he/she may want to reserve the rounds.

So you just gotta be wise its not all about spray and prey where I know for a fact some of you are going to be doing that :P

I only pull the trigger if I know Im able to hit the target not sitting there going bang bang bang bang every 2 sec.

I ended up using 600-800 rounds that ME you maye only use 500 rounds and call it a day thats U.* example*

Think about it, not everyone is going to want to waste there rounds lol..

CDN-SMOKEJUMPER
3rd August 2007, 02:48 PM
I shoot at everyone, as long as I'm shooting at them they are usually not shooting back. Getting shot hurts a bit so I'd rather be the victim the least amount possible.

I'm going to blow through at least 1000 without a doubt.

It's nice to be able to say that it's a guaranteed hit but I say better safe than sorry and having them lie face down in the dirt is better than in cover shooting back.

It's going to be a fantastic day boys.

householddog
3rd August 2007, 03:00 PM
OK i reckon the 500 might be the go then. I'd say most will use over 400 balls and it will end up slightly cheaper for most people.

God i love paintball. Only started a few months ago but ive already gone 3 times since then. went last sunday actually and got some great tactics going with my mates. the coolest thing about it is covering fire actually works. no game, not even PR can simulate the effectiveness of covering fire in real life. in 2.5 hrs of about 20 person games i used up 1000 paintballs, not counting the free for all round at the end to use up your remaining ammo (cause i had none left for that).

Aus Sniper01
3rd August 2007, 04:12 PM
Transportation...dad driving me lol....
Pogo! 1000 rounds jeez man your our dedicated MGer :P
When a few of the PR boys went last we used the same tactics in real life as Aussie and Kiwi + the Poms use :D.

Didnt work to bad lol, I got shot in the throat after UN-jamming my weapon and was yelling at Hatter to hall ass to the upper right flank as we tried protecting a POW lol...then I poped my head up and got shot in the throat!

I'll be living close to the CBD, South Bank at that time.

Funny that this thread was brought up, my girl suggested we go recently. I got a bit pudgy living in the burbs and not skateboarding so much so she's encouraging me to play outside and knows how much fun I think painball is. Plus she's just cool like that.

Where are you lot?

I'm off work in 20 minutes and will be bringing this up.

Gonna have me some fun.

There is a large unconfirmed group of people playing on the 26th of August.

....When play at a normal skirmish field you get crappy tippmann's.....

I dunno if they're that ****ty, when I went paintballing , if you pulled the trigger fast enough it caused something to jam and the gun would fire full-auto for an unknown and unpredictable amount of time. Was pretty hilarious but otherwise I will agree they were ****, balls arcing after 5 meters....

Aus Sniper01
4th August 2007, 08:28 AM
Yeah but remember Kornik your a Indoor Paintballer not a Outdoorer lol, much better through my eyes anyway in the bush. With the full auto crap its how fast you pull your trigger which is the best way to use up all your rounds QUICKLY...

Aus Sniper01

You got a iron sight at the end of the barrel its a pretty decent one I recon myself though :) they teach you all of that at the start of the day though. Dont worry stick next to me and you will be right

Lucid Nightmare
4th August 2007, 12:41 PM
Knee pads? Who needs those. Just eat the dirt like a real man.

Aiming them is pretty easy, even with the hopper in the way. Just look down the general direction of the barrel. You can adjust by looking where your pellets go/see where they travel through the air.

It gets pretty easy after the first few minutes.

Just got back from there, was open but had a ref and a group already playing meaning I couldn't take any pics :(
Right so I asked what are your fields like, he said they are exactly like Cockatoo. Cockatoo was bushy and had small little trenches and hilly terrain etc etc.

Now dad told the bloke that we only have 7 ppl going they will SPLIT US up and mix us around a little with another group, another thing covering Canadian Smokey. You and ur Mr's cant be on the same team, reason follows if you and ur mrs are on the same team and Ur Mrs is taking a hiding from House who's on the opposite team you will get ****y and get physical etc. <----EXAMPLE!!!!!!!!!!!!

He said try and get a minimum off 14 players all up and it would be awesome .

Houses suggestion packages was :
The Pro Package
$115.00 PER PERSON.
Includes: 500 Paint balls, JT X-Fire Goggle System Hire, Paintball Gun Hire-Semi AutoMatic, Camouflage Overalls Hire, Chest Protectors on request, BBQ Lunch - a selection of hamburgers , sausages and salad.

EXTRA PAINTBALLS $22.00 Per Hundred- Deposits are a MUST.

This and other packages BOTH COVER Cockatoo, Ballan and ColdStream.

So Aphex get ur ass into gear and notify ya Netball girls :D

householddog
5th August 2007, 03:58 PM
Well we had better get more people up then. Might try posting in the TOG forums as well see if we can get more numbers.

So are you saying they don't let partners on the same team AT ALL?

How about your hockey team aphex?

Aus Sniper01
5th August 2007, 04:10 PM
yeah the TOG and Aphex thing would be a good idea :)

I really don't know mate, I would say so because the guy there said it creates tensions etc. With what I wrote before, they were the exact words the boss at Coldy told me.

So I "THINK" it may be a yes dont take my word for it mate, but just ask if you still going to call up on Monday.

Is their a limit on numbers on each team ?

Not sure, they said they accommodated a 24 player booking so i'd say we won't over stretch them. Sure, invite your mate, the more the merrier.

The other thing you REALLY should get is a cricket box (groin cup). Taking a shot down there can be VERY painful apparently. :)

I am going to order some knee pads too. I really don't want to crunch my knees on a rock.

To tell you the truth, getting shot in the balls is so rare that the hassle of a hector-protector really isn't justified. I've been playing for several years and still haven't taken a nutshot thats knocked me down. Kneepads, however, are an excellent idea. Holding your marker like a guitar and doing a power-slide into a bunker is a truly awe-inspiring move if done correctly.

Aus Sniper01

I've taken 3 shots within centimeters to my nutsack, rare or not having your nuts swell to the size of a tennis ball would not be fun.

Still though, I'm going to risk it as I have too much other stuff to buy for this round. I have to get 2 sets of boots and some clothes.

Oh yeah, I'm going to shoot the **** out of the other half.....

From professional (not personal thank f.... hahaha) experience, trauma to the testicles isn't worth it. Cough up $10-15 for a cup, potentially save months of agony, or worse yet a 50%-100% reduction in your sperm count.

Works everywhere and is so good that the USMC adopted it also. You guys will probably get it too at some point.

Otherwise solid camo is best as natural shadows create the effect and as it's natural it doesn't stick out as much.

I know there is a bias in the camo but it really is bloody fantastic. Also, that website is not Canadian if that helps the credibility for some of you.

Aus Sniper01

The best I would say is Aus Camo because we are in Australian Bush, but also faded US woodland camo also works well. Ill be using a slightley looking US woodland camo but Ill be able to blend in good. Dad and I tested it yesterday lol.

Digital camo is better no matter where you are. Plus, I'm not sure your cammo was designed with the Australian bush in mind unless you're all planning on being invaded.

I think I'm going to picj up some boots and use the field stuff this time around though depending on if I can find good Aussie gear. CADPAT is expensive.

It's just the way the eye works. The eye is attracted to hard lines and un-natural shapes like round objects. Cammo that has lines such as the American Viet-Nam era cammo are good but not the best due to the lines on the pattern. The digital cammo is designed to break up the outline and it does it really well and the USMC have moved to it for good reason. You might not even know what you are seeing and just get a funny feeling and it's because the eye was drawn to something out of place. It's the one thing that Canada has over most other armies, a lot of the rest of our stuff is old garbage due to decades of underfunding.......

If you're going to Pucka ask them if they'll let you have a look at (or maybe even play with) WTS (Weapon Training System, spoken as 'Wets'). It's a $3m live fire simulator, and runs some pretty cool section attack and patrol scenarios as well as plain old range fire.

I can't remember if WTS is at Puckapunyal or Simpson Barracks, but if you like PR, you'll salivate over WTS. And the worst they can say is no anyway.

Luckily Navy recently got their own down here at Cerberus. I have an arangement with the dude who runs it, 2 hours a week of playtime in exchange for some dodgy dealings at the medical centre  .

You don't need to put down a deposit. I'll just put it on my credit card. The lady on the phone said the deposit is only forfeited if the whole group does not turn up @ $20 per head. If this turns out to be incorrect though I might ask the guys who didn't turn hand over the cash, however. I asked the lady twice however, and she said its only if nobody turns up

I do need numbers 2 weeks before the event however so it leaves you 2 weeks to drum up some people

I'll probably Make up a "D" sign or something. My car is pretty distinctive too Silver 91 Ford Capri Convertible. The session starts at 9am but the site says arrive 30-40 minutes early. might be best to add and extra 15 minutes leeway so we can assemble. So say roughly 8 am arrival. Aussie might want to comment whether this is too early or not though since he has actually been to one of their fields.

Oooops slight misunderstanding. Meant for Sunday drive (as in yesterday).
Took her to have a look at the PB centre. Unfortunately she's not really the PaintBalling type.

The place is currently being renovated and will be top class when finished. At the moment though it is a bit rough in the way of amenities. Not a problem for players but not the best for spectators. Non playing wives and girl friends will probably not be too impressed and will need to bugger off elsewhere to amuse themselves.

I know that in the ACT, you have to store your marker in a licensed lock up facility, like the one the commercial paintball places use. Not sure about other states/territories.

Speaking with some experience in the matter. When you play Comp, or Pro, you usually play air ball or screens. Bushball is just for recer's.
You don't have time for walkie talkies or grenades for the most part they slow you down, and weigh a bit too.
And as for marker mods, they are a personal preference, but mainly stick to ones which increase your ball output, or accuracy. barrels longer then 40-50cm are all well and good for distance games, but obstructive in comps. Speed is where its at.

the trick with personal spending is to let the misus run amok on her own stuff. Take careful not of when where and how much. Then ask if you can spend some money on yourself ;)

Hard to tell by the video but exactly who was covering the lower windows as they advanced? if someone was in that lower right window they might have been in trouble :)

I think in this paintball match it might be best to put your marker under your arm so they can't see your bright blue stripe :)

The rational behind having your rifle pointed where you are not looking as that if it's out of sight you can knock off a quick shot if your are surprised. If you're looking in a direction you should see tham so you move your rifle onto the target.

We also staggered lefties and righties so that you have rifles pointing in both directions.

EDIT/// I wonder if those are M-4's or C-8's in the photo? Also by the way they are looking through their scopes it looks like they have already aquired a target.

Very cool picture!

When on the move, the rifle is aligned with the way your body is facing, which is not necessarily the way your head is facing, however generally is.

When stopped and scanning the area, it depends how on the situation. If hostile, and expecting contacts, scanning is done down the sights, ready to fire on contacts. When things are a bit more 'quite' the rifle is held in a 'ready' position, slightly lowered, ready to bring up onto any contacts.

As to the picture, the 2 guys closest to us have M4's, both with aimpoint scopes and laser sights/designators, the one in the middle also has an M203 GL. The guy on the far side is carrying an M249 SAW with ACOG scope. The two on the outside are scanning for contacts as they move forward, the guy in the middle is most likely covering their advance while scanning through his scope.

If he had a contact chances are the other two would also be stationary, scanning for additional contacts, before engaging the first.

I think it will all come pretty naturally. I suppose we have a great big hooper obscuring our vision so that would have to be taken into account too :) Just remember to actually duck down, rather than twitching your index finger looking for the "crouch" key. :)

Now about my boots!

Boots, well Iv got these Yakka ones:

http://www.morningtondispos als.com.au/images/boots/06826_059_lge.jpg

Iv had them for a few years now, they have extra leather in the end instead of steel cap.

That's my suggestion, I paid $280 at the time at Rays Outdoors.
You probably can buy cheap crap K-mart ones for $60-80 though.

Ps: is this going to be a annual event do you reckon?

I was more thinking light hiking boots but i'll try on the yakkas. I need something more like runners but with ankle support. My are going to sweat to high heaven in those. :) Maybe something like HiTecs.

I probably would go again this year see how much i like this outing ofcourse.

You should be wearing sneakers ... c'mon! If you were uber-fit and were planning on going all terrain, sure, but you'll be out for 1 day, you won't be uber-fit and you'll be running around like buggery.

Where can I get combat boots?

householddog
23rd August 2007, 06:46 AM
Elizabeth St, near the bike shops there are 2 disposals stores. There is also Plat-A-Tack www.platatac.com, which is an actual army shop, on Little Bourke St off Elizabeth. They stock magnum boots which kind of appeal to me but are very expensive. You might want to drop in, check your size, then order of the internet. There should still be time I think.

Im not sure I would want to be wearing them all day though. They were never too comfortable when I was in cadets and seemed to take forever to break in. Technology has probably changed since those days though :)

Aus Sniper01

Eh when I did cadets 2 years ago I had to wear the black boots, so uncomfortable! :(
Now they bloody issuing the Regular Army boots to cadets!

householddog
23rd August 2007, 07:47 AM
Yeah we had the black boots too. I might try on some new army ones but my feeling is that they will feel a bit like ski boots. I couldn't move my ankles at all in the old black boots. Good for your ankles, sure but you have to walk like a cheap prostitute to move anywhere :) Climbing down stairs was a particular challenge if memory serves me correctly.

Is there not army surplus stores? You know, they buy old army stuff by weight and sell it in a shop?

I don't like Aussie disposal and those boots on the website are steep. I do want to get boots if nothing else though.

Still wearable though. Put it through the drier on high after washing it. It'll probably come out just right...

Most military uniforms I've dealt with are like that, although I used to get them sized just right, then put them through the wash and they'd come out 1/2 size too small and I'd have to walk around looking like pop-eye for a week until I could get them exchanged :D

Thanks Mate I might give it a try. I might just be thinking these clothes should be tighter. I am very use to wearing jeans this outfit just seems very loose compared to regular clothes. Sort of a cross between regular clothes and a martial arts uniform i suppose.

Its only 35% cotton and 65% poly but feels pretty cool. I soppose the cotton part should shrink a bit.

Yeah the ACU I got is a looser than that one you're wearing Aussie. Its just baggy thats all. I will try and put it through a hot wash to make it smaller. Its about 4 inches from being tight on the shirt and the pants could come in about 2 inches.

Yeah I bought some external knee pads as well. The pants and shirt have internal knee/elbow pad pockets I bought some pads for these too. The internal ones are a lot thinner than the externals but WAY more comfortable.
I can drop to one knee with the full weight of my body on the externals without discomfort, not that I would really be doing this. The internals are still pretty good though. I'll take both on the day.
