First off since this is my first post I'll introduce myself, My name is Dave and 22. And after that hefty introduction :P I have a few questions of you all in regards to PR.
1) I've got well over 100hours on BF2 and most of them as a sniper, I really enjoy long distance head shots and such, but to my dismay I wasnt able to become a sniper when logging onto PR. My question is, do you need to unlock this kit?
2) I just played for 20mins an love the concept of this mod, I was on the bigdgaming server but found it a bit hard as i was in a squad by myself for the most part, and un able to drive any vehicles to get to the heat of battle. I'm sure this is the same response as the sniper kit but how do you earn the kit to drive tanks and such?
3) After writing the above two questions I guess i realised I'm better off just asking for a rundown of how the mod works, I found it hard not knowing if we where capturing a base just standing there, untill i realised i got 30 odd team points for it. So if someone with a bit more experiance can shine some light on the inner workings of the mod that would be great. And I look forward to playing with some of you tonight as my mate and I will be having a long play since his computer is at mine aswell.

To get the sniper kit, you need to stand near a supply zone and use your "T" comma rose to request it, you then press "G" to pick it up. Good luck getting it though. You and every other man under the sun wants that kit. (only two are available per side on a full server)
You're better off going rifleman or medic and actually doing something for your team.
To drive tanks and the like, you need to request the crewman kit, and then enter the vehicle where the doors are (top for tank or rear and sides for the APC's).
To know which flag to attack, look at your map. Some flags will have little red "A" markers on them. Those are attack markers. Some flags have little yellow "D" markers on them. Those are defend markers.
Messages will also be spammed in the top left hand corner of your screen.

Thanks for taking to the time to stop and ask.
Have a quick look at this thread too (http://www.bigdgaming.net/viewtopic.php?t=701) , in particular the link to the PR wiki/user guide.
Youll find it extremely useful.

If you are constantly a sniper you'll probably get booted out of squads a lot and if you are not a team player you'll get known for it and get booted even before you request a sniper kit.
I like guys in my squad to ask if I need a sniper or marksman first otherwise it's almost always an auto kick. I do let people know first more often than not though.

Everyone likes a good long-range headshot, I'm with Smokejumper though. If thats all you are interested in PR probably isn't the best game, try Deer Hunter.
PRs all about team work. Start 'Joining' squads and worry about the rest later.

You'll also need to be in a squad of 4 or more to request a limited kit but the best thing is to have a read of one of the PR guides to learn how the game play works. It wont take long and you'll enjoy the game much more.

Also joining a squad just for the kit and leaving will make you hated here.
What a waste of an asset. Sometimes having a good sniper is very handy and some dude setting up a tent on the top of a building is a major piss off.
If you're a crack shot when I need a sniper welcome!

Hey Dave. Welcome aboard.
There actually should be an icon on your desktop after installing the mod named 'Project Reality Wiki' - that has a heap of information, including the answers to the questions you asked. In case you deleted the icon (I did, desktop icons pee me off) the url is as follows: http://prguide.realitymod.c om/index.php?title=User _Guide
PR is pretty different to vanilla BF2, not just in terms of gameplay but in the sense that teamwork is encouraged, lone wolfing is frowned upon, and on the bigD servers things like spawn camping will lead to an involuntary vacation from the server. After you get used to it, it's IMO much much better. Look forward to seeing you in-game.

thanks for the heads up guys!
After I started this thread I went and played again, I was just a rifle man, and since my mic cable snapped I basically joined a squad and followed all the orders i was given with pgup and pgdwn to give responses. Ranked up aswell (helps that you get 30odd points for capturing a base).
Im not usually the kind to lonewolf as a sniper, although Iwould be alone in BF2 i would be working with a squad. IE while the base is being captured I would spot and trim down the enemy troops coming to try and save their flag. So my intentions in PR would be to do the same. Although I must admit the number of players in servers would make beng a sniper a hard job as there isnt many people out in the open on the open maps, usaully in planes/ choppers/ tanks.
Anyway thanks for the heads up as to how the community works aswell, I look forward to learning the ins and outs of PR as the repeated hooliganism within BF2 makes it hard to have a serious battle anymore.
PS: I just had a play on BF2 to fill my sniping void, I didnt realise how much faster it plays than PR, I thought I was on speed

If you do manage to get the sniper kit having someone to spot for you is a huge force multiplier. If you see me in-game give me a yell and I'll come spot for you.
P.S. I reckon playing vbf2 would be very similar to being on drugs; no idea what's going on and hanging around with a bunch of lowlifes lol :P

It seems almost every new player wants to be the sniper and it's probably the most requested kit (by new players)
Once you actually get into the game and discover what it's about (teamwork)
you should hopefully realise that the sniper kit is probably the most useless kit in terms of teamwork.
A squad can always use an extra medic and because the ammo bags that the riflemen get
have been totally nerfed, squads can always use an another rifleman to.
Next time your in game at the beginning of the round have a look at all the messages in the top left of the screen
requesting the sniper kit and then when they can't get it
the marksman kit, 99% of those messages are because of new players.
The first thing you do when you join a squad should be to say g'day and ask the SL what kits he needs,
If you end up becoming YET ANOTHER person who hops in a squad and grabs the sniper kit without asking
you won't win any friends and the regular "team players" will soon start avoiding you.
And honestly, If all you want to do is be a sniper..........
This game is not for you.
Annoyingly there are enough people who want to be a sniper/marksman whore.
No offence intended

Yea but you dont have to be a lowlife if u take drugs
NavyMedic85
3rd August 2007, 05:02 PM
Of course not. Not everyone who uses drugs is a lowlife - I was just making a comparison.
But tell me that using drugs doesn't expose you to people who make your skin crawl. I worked in a nightclub for a few years before I joined the Navy and met some people that made me shudder.
That's beside the point though, I didn't mean to offend anyone and I'm sorry if you took offence to what I said. :D

well when ever I play vanilla I have to go lonewolf sniper as there are to many idoits on vanilla. Since playing PR I only take a sniper when we need it because the squad is pinned by one.

I'm a major pot-head and weed has taken me to some interesting places. Amsterdam for example, 13 months and ended up working at a TV station!
I used to be a raver though and yeah, you really can run into some people that make your skin crawl. So can beer though and beer causes black eyes and bloody noses.
I'll have to quit smoking when I go home though as I want to join the reserves again as it's fun and I can always have a smoke again when I leave the reserves. No point wrecking my life just because I like to get off my head and getting caught is almost an instant NES. (Non-Effective Strength) You can never join the army ever again or be a cop and that's not cool.
Good thing beer is legal! :P

By the sounds of it, it's equivalent to RNIN (retention not in interest of navy). Means your ass is fired essentially. No coming back, no other government jobs.

Do the Canucks do drug testing?
Everyone in the ADF is supposed to get done once a year. I've been in 2 and a half and never been tested though, but I remember hearing somewhere that for testers (medics, like me) to get tested there has to be some long drawn out process which makes it unusual. Either way, drug testing doesn't bother me too much, it's the alcohol breath testing the morning after pay night that gets me!
Something that a mate of mine mentioned seems relevant here. If I'm in the defence force, and am subject to random drug testing in order to qualify for my pay cheque, why aren't people receiving centrelink payments etc subject to random drug testing? Seems only fair to me.
Way off topic though :P
