Be interested to see what sort of specs ppl are using and what sort of performance they're getting on ARMA.
It seems that even if you've got a super computer you don't seem to get much more than 35 fps
(luckily the human eye can't distinguish anything over 24 fps)
My specs:
Pent. 4, 2.8ghz
2gb RAM
Nvidia 7600gt agp
fps using fraps:
Usually sits between about 30-15
Most settings are on low or norm, no AA, no AF
Lucid Nightmare
1st September 2007, 02:49 PM
AMD 3200+
2gb ram
Radeon 9600xt
Everything on low/off except for terrain detail which is at normal.
I'd guess between 20-30 fps on average.

AMD 3800 X2 CPU (939 socket)
2 Gb ram DDR400 4x512 in matched pairs
300gb sata hhd
X-Fi sound card
XFX 7800GT oc graphics
Win XP + sp2
i get around 25-30 FPS
Have performed some minor ingame tweeks to get better response.
Some settings high, some low and most medium.
That FPS is very playable for this type of game due to it being alot slower and more tactical than PR

Sorry I should have specified that I meant MP!
You usually get more fps in SP, it's MP that tests out your comp.

Not really interesting. Sure there is a bottleneck but I don't really play many games that are CPU intensive so it goes together quite nicely and I can run everything on high and get good frames.
Pretty well suited components for the few games I do play.

(luckily the human eye can't distinguish anything over 24 fps)
We can perceive blinking of an led light up to around 60fps at that time it becomes perceived as a constant light. That is why I turn monitor refresh rates to the option above 60Hz (ie to 75Hz) but after that you aren't getting any benefit in terms of what you perceive, its all smooth after you pass the threshold + a bit of leeway.
http://www.100fps.com/how_many_frames_can_ humans_see.htm
Lucid Nightmare
3rd September 2007, 04:49 PM
It's 24fps in movies and whatnot because they have motion blur. Games do not. Nor does a blinking led.

these are my specs:
Galaxy 8800gt 512mb
Amd x2 4800+ (2.5ghz)

quick look at static ice for prices of components:
Intel Q6600 QUAD CORE 2.4Ghz 195
Generic Nvidia 9600GT 119
Gigabyte GA-EP31-DS3L 82
4GB KIT 800MHz 92
SAMSUNG 20x DVD Burner BLACK SATA 27
Western Digital W.D. WD 640GB SATA II 94

The idea of this thread was to see what sort of performance your getting on ARMA
Its weird sometimes a sooped-up PC doesn't get the best fps
So what sort of fps you getting Pill?
Guess I should up date my pc and performance:

Really, thats strange.
Q6600 2.4Ghz Quad
ATI 4870 512mb
3.25GB 800MHz Ram
Old 80GB HDD
32 Bit XP
Asus P5K mobo
I run everything on high and get 80-120FPS and your system seems a little better than mine...

20 -25 FPS
AMD x2 4200 D/C @ 2.3 OC
Gigabyte GTX260OC 896mb
4gig 800mhz RAM (3.25 rec by windows)
32 bit XP
Gigabyte K8N Pro Sli mobo
250gig HD
I think my CPU is letting me down. An investment of around $400 in the new year will fix that with new CPU, MOBO and RAM.

I cant see that happening in big games, in forests etc. with a decent VD.
Edit,
Yeah I have zero problems with arma 2 (demo) on an ATI card. No CTD's with a stable 40+ FPS
As I suspected, a more realistic number you posted In a different thread.. Big variation in those numbers for some reason. Get confused or something?
lol..

arma 2 LOL
Specs..
E8500 overclocked to 4.0ghz
HD4850 overclocked...
4gigs of ram
vista 64 32 bit (ewh)
custom cooling loads of other stuff
1920x1080, everything "very high" including shadows and AF...
3916meters on view distance, any higher and my very high on texture details or something goes to high (Impossible to select very high anymore)
with low on anti-aliasing ( normal/high) doesnt change anything and makes fps lower atm.
Post-Processing is turned off because bloom and motion blur kind of suck, the end.
in about 40 minutes i'm going to be hard-wiring my new HD4890 overclock and overclock some more
oh and about 40-50 fps currently in action
will update with new GPU specs soonish.

How much RAM on the 4850?

People should be posting screen resolution as well. FPS means nothing without a res to go along with it.

Crazy then, 4850 512 with 1920 is pretty large. I wouldn't, with my 512 4850, even try that, I usually keep it to 1650.
Does the overclocking make any difference, as in, have you actually tried it OC'd and not?

One major slowdown is the HDD.
If you have a second hard drive then you can move some of the files to that drive and speed it up a bit.

My 4850 ran 1920x1080 over 1650x1080 essentialy the same fps. It was overclocked. I my 4890 is also overclocked massively ( from 850MHZ to 1000 on the gpu not memory)
