Hey guys,

I was hoping that someone would be able to help me do some fault finding, and ultimately fix, an issue with me puter.

I have a Dual core 2.6ghz, with 2 G RAM, an 8600gts card and I am still only getting 15fps on all low graphics in BF2.

Darth and I did some checking and it could be a problem with the processor. I was hoping that someone in the Perth area wouldn't mind me brining the machine to them for them to solve the problem.

Anyone able to help please?

Wal

I know it may soud strange, but, what sort of sound have you got... I had issues with onboard sound & changed to my old sound blaster 5.1 & all became good again.... mind you I had other issues also..

BIOS issues ? Graphics Drivers Issues ? I get my drivers for my GT/GTO 7900 from http://www.tweakforce.com

either way it will probably end up costing you http://tweakforce.com/images/Gnote.gif

http://www.cpuid.com/cpuz.php Download that, run it and let us know what speed the CPU is running at. It could just be a matter of setting it up in the BIOS correctly. Have you installed all the latest service packs for XP (if you are running XP)?

- So it occurs in both single player & online? (ie isnt your internet connection)
- have you checked your cpu utilisation as your run it?
- do other 3D games run alright (ie is it just BF2). If it is just BF2, it could be PunkBuster...

Hi guys, thanks for getting back to me.

I got no problems paying someone to fix it, as long as it gets fixed so if ya know someone let me know ;)

Davee - I got that cpuid thingo running, what do you want to know? I keep my mocrosoft up to date via the autoupdate program, so I am assuming that would include any service packs.

Sandy - I downloaded latest graphics drivers last night, no change in performance. How do I check bios, I got no idea how to change anything though.

Wokeye - I don't have any other games installed. Bf runs crap on single player and then slightly better on multi.

Thanks for your help guys.

Wal

checking bios...
this tool will identify your bios for you:
http://download.esupport.co m/biosagent/ba.exe
don't bother with the 'submit request' button after you have identified it,
that is a commercial thing. Once you identify your bios - do some googling.
I managed to successfully find an Intel auto-Flash utility and deploy it no
worries through doing some online research. Be careful to get only manufacturer-of-your-bios things because the bios, if screwed, can be irreparable. Try everything else before you try fixing the bios. Use the tool here to identify it and if you feel up to it, search for an update. Intel has free downloadable update utilities.

Can you not fix your bios if you format Sandy?

PhillipJ

no, you can't fix your BIOS with a format; it's not part of your operating system at all. It is a CMOS chip that contains all the essential information to configure your hardware (FSB or HT speed, ram multipliers, PCI bus speeeds ect) and also "knows" where the boot sector on your hard drive is so your CPU can load your OS.

it's pretty important, you probably can't break it by changing values in it (although your computer might not boot) but you *can* break it doing a BIOS upgrade. eliminate all other possibilities before flashing your BIOS unless your computer is purely for gaming and you don't care if it's out of action for a bit.

D955XBK that's your motherboard.

go here and use the bios updater:

http://www.intel.com/support/motherboards/desktop/d955xbk/
(main page)

http://downloadcenter.intel .com/Detail_Desc.aspx?agr =N&Inst=Yes&ProductID=2070&DwnldID=12688&strOSs=38&OSFullName=OS%20Inde pendent&lang=eng
(download options page)

http://downloadcenter.intel .com/T8Clearance.aspx?sTy pe=&agr=N&ProductID=2070&DwnldID=12688&url=/12688/eng/BK95510J.86A.2049.EB .EXE&PrdMap=&strOSs=38&OSFullName=OS%20Inde pendent&lang=eng
(download link direct-ish - may not work from off-site)

read everything you need to read before doing anything - don't blame me if you make a mistake ! BIOS may not be your problem but the program which is the most commonly used method for updating the bios is an automatic process which you DO NOT WANT TO INTERRUPT WHILE RUNNING AT ALL OR YOU WILL BE THE PROUD OWNER OF A $2500 PAPERWEIGHT!!!!!!

OK

cheers

eliminate all other possibilities before flashing your BIOS unless your computer is purely for gaming and you don't care if it's out of action for a bit.

+10

(or don't get it wrong if you do it - I have personally had no problems with the intel Flash utility - used it once this year and Hakuna Matata (no worries))

You can also PM Porridge on this forums. He'll look aftering and give it a good once over for you. He does it with mine all the time and if it wasn't for the fact that mine sits on the floor all the time, my comp would be running a lot smoother than now because of him
