View Full Version : Possible mini project for PR - interested?

Hey guys , I've been interested in doing a project for PR for a fair while now. Ultimately I lack the knowledge or dedication to pull off something like adding an ADF faction into PR , however here is little something I've been toying with for a while.

The idea is adding SAS CT (counter terrorism) teams and suitably themed maps in PR. By suitably themed maps , I mean ones that have a focus on stuff CT teams commonly encounter such as room clearing/urban environments etc , and to also have the maps have a focus on using tactical "tools" , such as flashbangs, tear gas, grappling hooks (this might also be a substitute for a deployable ladder).

I've talked with ned about this and he seemed interested and willing to help when it does get going. Ideally the content necessary is already there, besides maps of course.

If you're interested and would like to know a bit more : here's my little notelog of ideas etc (decided to put it in quote form , rather than a crappy upload site like rapidshare) :


Mini-project for PR (WIP scrapbook/brainstorm): adding SAS counter terrorism teams and suitable maps.

Projected Ideas (WIP):

Adding SAS CT team and suitable OPFOR team.
CQB themed maps with plenty of room clearing and opportunities to employ tactical tools
unbalanced gameplay in the sense that the SAS team should have the upper hand.
Kit system : Figuring out a way to make sure kits remain fairly unique , this will be hard as the common weapons of SAS CT entry teams are MP5s or Shotguns --- and the latter is usually only a tool.
New suitable gameplay mode(s) , obviously due to the Close Quarters nature a flag capping system may not work. Perhaps a rescue the VIP using the extraction system could work.
coding so that the gasmask from SF stays on permanantly for SAS CT. Remove slowing of Sprint recovery from mask.
Possibly removing the effect of flashbangs on SAS team? This might help simulate the way CT teams clear rooms.

Kits (WIP):

SAS CT:

assaulter 1 (rifleman) :
knife
MP5
Sig Sauer sidearm
flashbangs
grappling hook.

Sniper (replace spec ops?):

knife
L96A1
Sig Sauer sidearm
binocs
possible grappling hook


breacher (engineer):
shotgun
sig sauer sidearm
breaching charge (possibly using C4 model , but much less damage and splash)
gas canister launcher
possible grappling hook

assaulter 2 (medic) :
knife
MP5
sig Sauer sidearm
flashbangs
medical (paddles/med kit).
possible grappling hook

Thoughts on useage of "tactical" tools: tools such as the grappling hook and flashbangs (especially) will be come vital to the style of play , however , would it be better to give said tools to all kits , or to certain kits so squad composition is more mixed?


Projected map "ideas/themes" :

Stronghold style map , SAS assault by car , OPFOR defend inside. Possible extraction mode.

Oil rig , SAS assault/insert by heli , OPFOR defend checkpoints. Possible Advance and secure mode.

Urban environments , say , a street in city , full of clearable houses.


Ultimately should focus on trying to use as much content that is already in PR/BF2 as possible to cutdown on workload.

first off you would need to get permission form PR to use their content. Dont see a problem making a faction and or maps but they would have to go passed the devs etc.

As for changing the kit layout etc etc, again you would have to ask them to be able to use their content.

Either that or you would have to start from the ground up with vanilla and go from there.

Yeah, you're better off pitching the idea to them then getting them to agree that if you can get the map work done they possibly combile it into PR and see what they think of the finished product and whether they want to include it in PR.

well if the idea goes ahead i'd like, I know my way around 3dsmax and the bf2editor but i have no idea how to get the models in bf2

also you cant rip of CS too blateny or they mite have a problem with it as well but if you dont make any money then i dont no really depends on the laws that the contry was made in

I know nothing about how to actually do it, but it sounds cool, I'd play it for sure! I really like the idea of the some terrorists holding a bank or something, CTs go in after it. It'd kinda be like counter strike but good.

It sounds like a good idea actually.

I think you'd need to pitch a new faction to the Rdevs and see what they think. It sounds like it could be quite fun really.

Lol , I don't actually see how it will end up anything like CS. Yeah sure the Counter Terrorism theme , but CS sucks amirite?

My original idea was actually based on the police response teams in Australia like SERT, SOG, etc. But this is much easier and suits PR's play style more. After all , you can't much ask a player to drop his weapon can you :P ?

I'm still a bit confused how to pitch the idea of the OPFOR team , anyone got some suggestions. After all I want them to be able to put up a fight , but have it so they need be more crafty against a better trained and better equipped team.

It's not CT ..... but it is low level, it is all about ADF SF and it is similar to PR ...... drop by www.northernexposure mod.com to check us out ;)

its better gear going against a well denfended place
what you could do as a test is to rip a cs map
or you could more base it more on swat 4

That's okay mate, neither do I , hence why I'm planning to use as little "new" content as possible. Would be great to have you on board once and if this gets going.

id play it, just a few suggestions

Dont give every kit a grappel hook as then it would encourage team play, possible zipline for Sniper,

give Terrorists or w/e AK 47's, dont forget the suicide bomber (make them run fast and have no amour, no weapons besides a bomb which can also have a timed detonator for 10 seconds which also blows up if he is killed) Pipe Bombs (basically C4 but explode like Nades)

RPG, not a rocket launcer but a Rocket PROPELLED Grenade, so much like a nade launcher but more powerful. Uzi's (low damage, xtream rate of fire) Pistols (9mm) A wall bomb (were they hide bombs inside walls and re plaster over it so u cant tell, remote detonation)

No commander assets, commander for Counter Terorists only, gives orders, ect

My last suggestion is that you have 2 insertion points were u spawn, one in a forest or tree filled area or a small out post on a road leading into the town, village, urban area or w/e were spawns 1 Black Hawk and 2 Humvees

also i reckon that this would also be good for PR but make it so the is a line that drops from the black hawk that you can climb down to the ground on, much like SWAT, Maybe a grappel hook can be deployed or the piolet controls it idk

These are just some suggestion and/or some brainstorming ideas for you, im sure it will be great no mater what if it does get made, good luck make sure to hit me up if anything happenes with this sick sounding mod

clearing an embassy would be a great idea for a map

how about defense of the usa embassy
high walls with barbwire but you can blow holes in the wall a gate that opens
just a small army force and they have only one flag to hold and the insergints get no flag with a bleed or a timer

so really special forces for PR

sounds like a good idea with the embassy, at the current rate this is gonna be a full blown Mod. you would need to make it a Defend and Assult Gameplay, much like insurgancy except the target is to capture the flag inside the embassy. good ideas
