Ok, Think Evilrooter might have told me this one the other night........

If your getting slow frame rates in ARMA, can (possibly) help to do this,

Press left shift button and release it then type: flush

Apparently this clears your cache or something.

Your screen should go black for a split second and hopefully your game will run a little smoother.

Ran a little smoother for me.

Do as often as you like/whenever game seems to be slowing down.

Hope this helps.

I find i have to do this like every 20 mins or so.. or especially after i tab out and come back into game. Certainly gives me more play time between random lock ups. ..

Another tip, if u fly helis alot bind a keyboard key to engage auto hover.

this isn't tech related but....

USE THE BLOODY TACTICAL WALK FOR GOD'S SAKE! ESPECIALLY IN URBAN AREAS.

I don't know how many times I've seen some noob get shot because while trying to get to the edge of a wall to peek out , he jogged too far fowards and got nailed. It's quite simple , tap left shift twice or just hold it , whichever takes your fancy.

Also, in urban combat, it helps to have your sights up in the tactical walk, but with the least zoom. Double tap "-" to get the widest FOV.

Again for urban combat, if you lean up against a wall, you can lean round a corner in one swift movement.
Stop before the corner but still looking along the wall. Bring up your sights, lean the direction you normally would if you were going to look around the corner. Now, move your mouse towards the wall. If you do it right, you should feel your gun "stick" to the wall and you will lean round the corner.

Very good point lucid, something I do regularly but rarely notice that I do.

More tips: If you have to use a sidearm; keep moving (with obvious exceptions), pistols are actually more stable while moving with the sights up then primary's are, so practice firing your sidearm while moving in tac-walk/sights up.

A key thing to remember is that in OFP/Arma the bullet is spawned from the 3d muzzle of your weapon, not the center of your screen, so remember while your sights may be clear of an obstruction, the barrel may not be.

Leaning is not always the best solution: Based on the situation, you might want to use this old technique from OFP before leaning was added by mods: using the tacwalk edge to the end of the wall just enough so you can sight up around the corner without your body being exposed, this way you can still make shots yet don't risk exposing yourself. HOWEVER, this is defeated by leaning in the standing and crouched positions because you can "pop" back in with lean , so it's best to use this in prone position when you don't want to fully roll out.

If you are running an Nvidia card go to your,

Nvidia control panel > 3D settings > Manage 3D settings > Program settings tab > find (armed assault arma.exe) in the list > now set antialiasing transparency to off > click Add button.

If you run low frames around dense foliage this should give you about 5-10 more frames per second at least for no discernible graphic difference AFAIK.

also if you havent already force vsync off in the control panel too. arma has vsync on by default and you cant turn it off ingame.

Someone get in server and show me the ropes. Aced the tutorials (lol) and went into the only server only to see my squad leader was 5 and a half kilometres away.

Mellie, didnt realise it was ure first night, I would have jumped on and helped, but now I have bedtime cause McLeods Daughters is over and I can actually be in the same room as the television.

D/L Ventrilo and jump into the AEF channel, theyre really helpful and great players so they will gladly help you. Or come next Tuesday for ArmA night Pwnage.

I did quite well I thought... until I realised that coop mode was humans against bots!

Most confusing thing so far is knowing where to go as my squad leaders so far have been less than inspirational.

Is it just me or is it far preferable to shoot from the muzzle view rather than iron sights? Anywho, have a lot to learn... shame there aren't more servers active... I'll also start checking out the mods, especially sound as the ingame sounds are terribad.
