Anyone else seen and loved that series?

Did you guys know that they are currently filming another one for the Pacific theatre and it's getting filmed right here in Victoria!!

I met the lead actor of Band of Brothers while I was skating in London, had no idea he was English.

Would hardly be the first or last movie being filmed in Australia about the war in the pacific.

This is true but with such a large budget?

Not often, will bring in some money!

I've been watching the series over the last couple weeks. it was so well done esp the action scenes. incredible what those guys went through. in bastogne (sp?) they were 70days on the front lines in winter without proper clothing and not much ammo. the germans had them surrounded and were firing tree burst arty. it was not surprising when I heard easy company had a 150% casuality rate. I'm going to pick up Ambrose's book about it in the new year and see how close they stuck to it. from what i heard it's all pretty accurate and they only messed up a few dates etc. anyone else read the book? is it worth it?

I certainly think so I would suggest reading almost anything by Stephen E Ambrose especially band of brothers or citizen soldiers.

I have it and it is worth it, I also have Pegasus Bridge. The series has a lot of inaccuracies though such as Albert Blithe. He did not die just after the war and served in Korea and was still on active service in 68 when he did actually die.

However, I watched it to be entertained and it entertained the hell out of me.

Here is a critique.

He's a bit over critical but hey I think he's old and has a lot of time on his hands.

Blithe doesnt die in the show... he gets shot in the neck and is shown in UK in a hospital bed at the end

He dies some years after... around 1954? never fully recovering from his wounds

There is only 1 season of Band Of Brothers, which is of course from the Stephen E Ambrose book Band Of Brothers is about Easy Company E of the 506th Parachute Infantry Regiment, U.S. 101st Airborne Division which was in turn part of the XVIII Airborne Corps. What were infact talking about is a new Mini Series made by the team who brought us Band Of Brothers its supposedly called "The Pacific" and is of course in fact based on a entirely different book/group of men.

My brother's friend is working on the pacific as a cameraman I think, either that or an extra, can't remember exactly. But yeah apparently they've also been filming in QLD.

You have to remember that the photo is just a normal snapshot without any of the MANY effects* that the series itself has layered over the top of it to make it look well old timey and dirty. As well as what War has said previously when you first deploy into a battle your usually wearing a clean uniform and under wear. :P

*I would seriously suggest you all watch the extra's on the Band Of Brothers DVD's and documentary just too understand how effort went into the production and how they do it all, the air mortars they use for explosions are especially interesting.

Wait till they have added special affects, then it will be alot different.

Just watching the first series now. Watched 2nd DVD tonight which I was hanging out for after end of 1st one (just flying into battle). Enjoying it! Have done a fair few jumps out of planes myself so enjoying the paratrooper bit also.
Vis - will give the extras a watch, which I normally don't bother with.

It is a fantastic series, nothing can compare with the comradeship of those men.

That pic is of the US ARMY no Marines, from what I can tell.
The Marines durring ww2 didnt wear that they either had the blob cams,blueish/greensih uniform.

Army used whats in this pic plain, similiar or exactley to the Eurpoean frontline uniform.

The tried using the pattern camo in Europe but it looked too similar to the Germans. I just learned that recently.

Brilliant series, and an excellent read too. Each chapter of the book is an episode of the series. Works perfectly. I'd read one chapter, watch an episode... although there are quite a few "liberties" taken with story lines and whatnot, all of the "real" details are there. It's simply brilliant.

I didn't hear about The Pacific until just recently, and was too late to get involved unfortunately. Would have loved to been involved even a little bit.

Often get asked best TV show/series... it's always BoB. Get asked best war film... always (cheat) BoB. Superb.
