Hey I've got some homework about sports injuries to do and I thought, who better to ask than a group of 20-50 year olds who are heavily involved with military and other strenuouse activity. Longer lives = better chance of results than a bunch of 14 year old kids.

All Categories are Down, thanks for helping me everyone.

Name: Daniel Cade
Injury: Dislocation (Knuckle)
How you did it: Drove my knuckle back into my fist while playing football.

Injury: Fractures (Medial Tibial Syndrome *Shin Splints)
How you did it: Got taken out by serious illegal slide tackle while playing soccer which started the micro fracturing of both my shins put a total end to my sporting days and possibility of joining the armed forces.

My personal favourite although it wasn't technically a sport accident I fractured my collar bone when I landed my bike badly after a jump my friend who was a cadet medic came over to check my collar bone to see if it was broken. His exact words "See its not broken if it was broken I couldn't lean on it" guess what he did ? On the plus side when I went to the doctor he noticed I wasn't using my left index finger to button my shirt about 3 weeks earlier I had cut it quite badly with a scalpel all the way to the bone and had completely severed the tendon. 2 days later I was in surgery and now I have a 2 inch scar all the way down the left hand index finger and I still can't bend it fully. That doctor saved me from having a completly usless index finger know what that means I wouldn't be able to strafe left no finger for the D key. :P

thanks for that Vis, great help but I'm real sorry about the shin MTS, you must've had to rethink your entire life after that.

NOTE: for future reference, if a type of injury has been said, I only need one of each category. For example, Vis and Madhouse both mentioned there dislocation, I only need on story about each injury. The Fracture was still really helpful

I've got one for almost everyone of these but most are due to me being the most unlucky guy alive and since my shins are cactus I have hurt myself either at work or around the house.

thats alright Vis, I'm trying for one per person but if worse comes to the worse and no one wants to help out a team member in an environment centered around teamwork I'll use whatever you can give me

Thanks Kirk, but I could still do with your second name.

Graunch: Well, for every helpful person you have to have an extremely unhelpful person.

Bahlye: Thats a hefty set of injuries, but...none of it is new, I've already got info for fractures and nothing I needed was to do with stabbing

Torn ligaments in right ankle
Happened 3 years ago. Jumping over a cricket boundary rope going out to bat on the final day of a tournament. It sucked, was in a cast for 1.5 months

Fractured right knuckle, the one where the little finger joins the palm
Did it punching a w%$#&r on the last day of year 6. epic fail.

Not sure if that is useful, but thats the only real injuries I've had.

Come on team, out of 17 people I'm sure at least one has had a cramp and heat stroke, these are like two of the most common!

Kindros
25th February 2008, 10:48 PM
Only a small majority would get a cramp during sport though. And Heat Stroke is really only common to runners or marathon athletes.
Your muscles cramp from a lack of salts and build up of lactic acids. Which generally happens from perspiring and continues muscle movement, which will starve the muscle of white blood cells and in turn release the lactic acid.

The quickest and closest you will get is from a footy player who has done a hammy in.

And for heatstroke...Well I have had it, though it was nothing to do with athleticism. More of being in a very hot and humid climate, and not taking precautions.

Retribunator
25th February 2008, 11:01 PM
well that heatstroke thing is good any which way if you can tell me your name and if you got it in an intersting way

Mitchell P

Frolicking in a very hot and humid environment (Vanuatu 40-45DegC), straight off a plane from Australia where it was a very humble 30DegC

can I get your last name man or is that info classified?

Kindros
25th February 2008, 11:13 PM
For people I do not know personally it is :) P will have to suffice. Though it could be short for any number of last names you make up.

Bahlye
25th February 2008, 11:25 PM
Cramps...I often get them in my adominal muscles...mainly on the LH side (could be related to various rib injuries over the years...see earlier post).
happens mainly while working..lifting things or bending over engine bays on cars...
More of a muscle spasm really I guess...still really freakin hurts but....

Hope that is of use for you...
Rn Bryan Stevenson...doesn't bother me to post RN as its already in my Profile in Email address..
(just don't like google/yahoo slurp spider searching through our forums all the time....).

Maybe technically A sports injury as we have alot of race cars(saloon cars...VN/VP/VT commodores going through the workshop.....)..Moto rsports count?
