View Full Version : Flight Training

I propose that the more experienced pilots amongst us (e.g not me) hold a match say once a week where they instruct and help the inexperienced pilots learn the skills they need to benefit their team on the battlefield.

Experienced pilots usually have little tricks that can help those who are struggling with flight to become more skilled.

Just a suggestion

If you are interested, post here.

Yeah, I'd be happy to join in as a Chopper pilot/gunner/transport.

Once you've got basic flying and bombing under control, we could do some SOFLAM practise. :D

Yeah I'm still a pilot in training gotten heaps better with the jets but choppers arggh still struggle to get em balancing on a pin (Damn you Psyrus :P)

I don't touch jets without a joystick. Choppers on the other hand are pee-easy with mouse and keyboard.

Hint: Make sure your mouse is inverted for choppers!

I use a joystick for every flying vehicle, and I fly choppers and jets well, it's just the landing on choppers that I come unstuck on, as some of you (unfortuantely) know.

SO when should we organise it for? After we get some more interest.

I can take off, but that's about it. Would love to learn how to fly a chopper though.

I'm fine with choppers. Planes I could use some help with stuff like dog fighting and landing.

I can get off the ground in a chopper but then crash back to earth very quickly I would be up for some flying lessons

yeah, I'll help out. Ive been playing combat flight simulators and Microsoft simulator since I was 3 years old and I love it. Hehehe I've even got a copy of Jane's AH-64D Longbow for windows '95 just above me on the shelf.

Yeah and I'm with Cap_Wolf, I could do with some plane landing help, the instructional vdeo they gave us was completely bogus. Imma go practice now

, the instructional video they gave us was completely bogus.

How do you figure that?

I followed the video and it works perfect for me.

Any chance we can get Server #3 back up and running with Kashan training maps?

Short answer=No...Not a possibility sorry.

Long answer=You can book server 2 for it,just make sure its a suitable time for as many of you that are interested, and that there is no event already booked for that date/time.

.:)

I'd go with some training in the gunners seat of an attack chopper.
I don't get to gun often, I'm usually flying but since 0.7 I'm not really sure how the gunning works (guided missiles and such) so I'm never really sure how I have to fly the thing for the gunners to get a decent shot.

But I don't think you'd put the Kashan Training maps (zero time vehicle spawns, all vehicles) on would you?

Probably not the training maps....Afaik know it would have to be done from GSA end.....Would have to have the maps on the server...which they aren't....

Not saying its impossible, but we are reluctant to mess around with the server set up atm...

If you want to book s2 for flight training you will have to use Kashan or Qinling normal version...

(but will look into it for you all ....no promises...:))

It's ok... I'm not sure if it'll be insufficient, but I can open my training server up for flight prac if the need arises. It supports up to 10 external players (5 v 5) if you use TS for the voice comms (voip eats up too much bandwidth, it would drop to 3v3 otherwise). I run all the training maps and it can easily be set up (like... I'm talking 5 mins from now :))

Alright, server is set up. Simple steps to join:

0) Download the training pack [here] (http://www.realitymod.com/forum/f10-pr-general-discussion/24557-training-mode-minimod.html#post429 028)
1) Open your PR Mutliplayer tab
2) Click Connect to IP
3)
IP - trev.serveftp.com
PW - bDflight

You'll then be in.

* Kashan desert is good for people new to flying, as there's basically nothing to crash into except the ground.

*Albasrah is excellent for chopper practice, as it provides a labyrinth of buildings to fly between to hone your chopper maneuverability skills. It is also excellent for practicing tight insertions between buildings or on uneven terrain.

* Qinling sucks for flying because the fog makes reading the HUD almost impossible, but if you want to get familiar with the map, it's all there.

If you are crashing to desktop, you have a different version of the maps than the server, or you haven't downloaded the training pack at all.

Psyrus, I just tried to join up, and once I got on it immediatel froze, but only the server. If I pressed esc, it would go to the menu immediately and so would alt-tab. I definitely have the mod pack installed (unless thats a different one to the flight training from a couple of months ago)

Ohhhhh that'd be because I'm downloading a tv episode, in about 5 mins my torrents will disengage and all will be well ;)

Just checked, should be working fine now :)

WTF Vista won't allow me to un-zip the files for the map.

Psyrus
16th March 2008, 05:27 PM
Are they .zip or .rar? You might need winRaR if they're .rar files :)

wolffy.au

http://www.7-zip.org/download.html

7-Zip opens anything and its free - woo hoo!

James_Patterson
16th March 2008, 05:33 PM
I have WinRaR and it is a .zip file, and whenever I try to extract the files into the bf2 folder, it comes up with a bunch of access denied's

Edit: Snap, I downloaded 7-zip, worked first time.

Cheers for that wolfy.
