check your lights on your modem. When you get a disconnection are the PPP and internet lights on?

In then are blinking or come back on then your internet has lost synch with your host.
It happens when there is a noisy line or your ISP has put too many people onto ADSL in your exchange for the equipment to handle.

If its not your internet dropping out then there are alot of things it could be

Also, do you have multiple phones hooked up in you're home? i used to wire up communications, and a common problem was people getting random disconnects due to the way the phones were wired. the line can get easily interupted by in comming, or out going calls or from general line usage. But the easyiest way to see if this is the case is do what Darth said, and check if its you're whole net dropping out first.

Also in a standerd home with only one line in, you can generally only have 3-4 phones hooked up on the line, after that the line becomes disrupted/or no dial tone at all. Check the REN number on each of you're phones, add them up and if it equals more than 3, you will need to unplug some. Thats just ia shot in the darkl though...

mine seems to be related to my ISP, it's a completely random(although reoccurring) problem, i can't play online anymore as it's just to frustrating having to reconnect all the bloody time, although that phone thing could play part, as i do have a number of new phones installed just recently though i dout it that as the phone never rings same time as the drop out.

for every phone in your house you should have a filter on it. if your using ASDL

Is your modem getting too hot?
Have you looked at Whirlpool to see if others on your ISP/exchange are experiencing the same thing?
Does it happen with all online games, not just PR/BF2?

I'm having trouble posting

no one else seems to have a problem like this(or so no one has reported via whirlpool)

modem could be hot, but didn't think much of it though, it has been running probably a month or two straight without going off.

i'd test it out but my dad has a phone conference soon and uses voip alot.

it happens in all online games, it's near impossible to notice when using a web browser as it's simply something that is so insignificant to pick up, though it's big enough drop to disconnect me from a game.

also i can sometimes still hear people talking over voip while i have "there is a problem with your connection" on my screen till i disconnect, very confusing.

if it's not the modem and not my ISP what else could it be?

i still says its a filter problem
you need filters for your all phones and internet
can you talk on the phone and play games at the same time. try it

Do you have a house alarm system?

Did you check that your dropout doesn't occur when your VOIP ATA re-registers with the VSP (if it is set to)? Though I'd doubt that would be it, never know though...

What speed is your connection?

Does it only happen during/after rain?

Gu^n3r

no.

no.

1.5 up 256 down

no, always occurs, no matter the weathers condition.

yeh i get random drop outs as well
if im on PR im bound to get 1 dropout a night
i have a wireless connection, I just assume its the piece of **** dropping out for a few secs and returning (not a problem when im on the internet, doing emails etc but a problem when it comes to gaming)
iv just accepted it, it is annoying though - especially as the BF engine doesnt let u enter a squad if u DC so u HAVE to spawn at main base before rejoining your squad

You guys need to check your connection logs, either in your router or @ your isp's page if they provide it. Basically it sounds like the PPPoX connection is being dropped temporarily, but sync remains, which means it simply reconnects the PPP connection and away you go. Sadly, most of the time on ADSL and Wireless BB this will entail a new IP, meaning the server no longer holds a connection to you, and you have to reconnect.

I forget what the underlying cause of PPP connections being dropped is, but if it is a loss of sync, that's a line fault and you need to get that investigated, because due to Telstra's restrictive dB limits, your ADSL service should be running spot on, weeks of uptime at least. I have ADSL2+ and I just came off a 31 day PPP connection, so it's not like ADSL is inherently unstable.

This is the only known solution to your problem. It is a work around of a problem with BF2@ netcode. Try it for a while and see if your disconects deminish. Not an ideal solution but it will save you a heap of reconnections

doesnt work.

Psyrus

doesnt work.

run a ping to your ISP's server:

CMD > ping server IP/Name -t

It will ping the server every second. When you drop out, alt-tab to the CMD window and check if the server is still responding. If not, you've proved you're dropping your whole internet connection [or similar behaviour] and need to get it looked up. If the pings keep coming through when you get kicked, the problem is with your BF2.

it's not BF2, i know that because it happens in all my games.

also i need a command to work out my IP - stupid vista.

IP can be obtained from ADSL router or modem. Alternatively, for non-tech minded people, this works:
http://showip.net/

If it's happening in all your games, you're going to have to do connection troubleshooting:

- Isolation test
- Monitoring exactly what happens & when
- Calling ISP

Have you guys got your connection speed, in the options, down to 256 instead of T1?
