I don't know if any of you follow boxing much, but Danny Green recently retired holding his WBA World Light Heavyweight title. While i can empathize with his decision and his reasoning behind it, it's disappointing to me because I honestly felt he was one of Australia's great and few international boxing prospects, he's had a awesome career and no-one can deny that he's had his fair share of **** treatment when it comes to the more seedy dealings of boxing, but he still pushed on through.

Would've loved to see his fight with Roy Jones jr, that would've been one for the history books and he would've mopped the floor with Mundine had he came up in weight to challenge Green.

But here's a nice tribute to Danny Green i found on youtube:

Thanks mate, you've done us all proud.

It's not so ridiculous once you realise what a difference a few kilograms can make to the power of a punch.

Lol and don't even get me started on the completely different workings of each weight class, I'll talk your ear off all day.

Green was the "one to beat mundine" green thought he was gonna do well. He just put himself to shame. He was walked all over.

Mundine doesnt need to move weight, he is perfect where he is, and hes speed is what kills his opponents. Big and heavy people just throw hard and move slow.

Green retired afaik like a month ago a few days after he won the title he decided to retire.. Good on him I say he has atitle and still has half a brain.. might have been different if he stuck around a year or 2 more...

Mundine on the other hand has excellent staff picks his fights well and won't stand still long enough to take a beating, but sooner or later he will have to step outside his comfort zone or he'll forever be known as the man who fights the has beens.

uhhh no?? Green had a bad fight, every boxer has one every now and then, everyone says he was outclassed by mundine. If you watch carefully in the fight, most the blows mundine avoided actually glanced off him and green was looking tired and strained from the get go. Furthermore, compare greens career to mundine. Mundine has consistently fought pretty much nobodies and has only sought out a interim belt. Green moved out of his comfort zone and won a world light heavy belt. Im not saying mundine is a bad boxer, he's obviously got skills coming from no amateur background, however saying he's better than green based on the outcome of one fight is a bit off.

As for big people moving slow, again i cant agree there, i can rattle off a huge list of light heavy and heavyweight fighters who are extremely fast. Hell you dont even need to be into boxing to know heavyweights can punch hard, fast and consistently, look at Muhammad Ali. And thats a obvious example.

+1 to what Gruanch said.

If mundine ever stops being a pussy and moves out of his comfort zone, he's going to get a beating from great middleweights like bernard hopkins, kelly pavlik, etc.

I know just because your big doesnt mean your slow, Im a 120kg and I reckon Im pretty dam fast. But its speed that isnt as good as mundines.

I just think its funny with so many people making excuses for why green lost or why mundine won.
He kicked his ass. Thats all there is to it. He taunted almost the whole fight, it was like a walk in the park.

I dont follow boxing much, I prefer to watch UFC but I like to watch the "popular" boxing matches down at the club.

I see ufc as more of a natural skillfull fight. Best man wins.

Modern gladiator.

Cry me a river....who cares....Green isnt special, he was just a poster boy for the "We hate Mundine" rally.... It could have been anyone, and they would get behind them. I watched the fight (all of like 10mins) Green got smacked down, he looked like an amatuer, he shouldnt of been there, but he wanted the big purse that comes with Mundines big mouth. Now odly enough he "retires" money...green...the colour of.

I dont get weight classes? Reality is, someone picks on you, you dont get to say "well you weigh 4 kilos more, so i dont want you to hit me, cause it will hurt".....if your gunna be a tough guy with a trophy and a belt...then earn the bloody thing, and beat all opponents who come forward....Not just the guys your size....lets face it...did boxing start because all the mums said "Pick on someone your own size"???

I will say Mundine doesnt seem to have enough fire tho, none of them rarely do, maybe cause they are scared of not looking pretty anymore.....where is the agresssion, the hate, the anger....if someone wants to beat me up and starts throwing punches, i get very very angry, and i want to kill that person, and if it gets that far i dont stop until i have done just that, or im pulled away from them....

Thats what used to be great about boxing...the anger and the violence.

Because it's a sport so it needs rules.

It's because A) what aresnik says and B) you'll quickly realize when you actually get in the ring what a 5 kilos difference can make behind a good punch. It would be pure stupidity to expect a 64 kilo boxer to beat a 90-100kg machine.

THat might be the case in the ring, but out on the street Ive got a few friends weighing under 90kg who would drop people 10-30k heavier then them.

Its only in the ring where the 5kg makes a difference as theres so many rules to follow. Soon as you open that up then the weight advantage can be easily taken away by a persons fighting approach.

Anywho, its like kirk said, he wanted to lead the anti mundine faction as so many people wanna see him get beat, and green got put down then retires. Makes him look small to me. I think he should of gave it another go and put up a bit of a fight this time.

Time to go get another UFC movie sit back and watch the entertainment I think. Its a brutal game. But theres no excuses, and no complaints about a 5kg difference. And none of em are making millions in a hurry, most of em are doing it for the feeling and satisfaction of destroying another human being using his body as the weapon. Theres nothing else that compares to it. Spectating or fighting in it.

The reason they aren't making millions is bacause they can't. They simply don't have the sponsorship dollars or the fan base to raise the prize money anything close to a world class boxer.

MMA looks brutal but with all its rules it is a lot safer than boxing. And the fact fighters can win by submission reduces the amount of damage that can be delivered to the head, which is the cause of most deaths in boxing.

They also have weight divisions similar to any other combat sport, for the same reasons as boxing does - at the end of the day it's a sport and people like to see good fights wich is usually when opponents are of the same skill level.

Green retired for good reasons - he put his family first. Shows he's a man with integrity and still has his wits about him

To say you think he looks small for retiring tells me you've never stepped into a boxing ring before and given it your all infront of a crowd where half the people want to see you flat on your back.

He holds a world title, he has the balls to get into the ring I think he should should be given the respect he deserves as a world champion.

Ive been in a ring before but not with a big crowd. And to say a submission is an easy way out makes me think you havent watched many UFC dvds. Theres plenty of snapped and broken arms, ankles etc due to submissions. They break em fast.

I have a friend from school who fights in MMA, I see the transformation he made to be a fighter. He is a machine. And he doesnt get anything out of it but the feeling of a winner. When he wins.
