Snapped these with my phone on sunday on the way to the dump. They would have been on their way back from Shoalwater Bay Training Ground that is north of Rockhampton (where i live).

was 4 or 5 trucks.. they had 2-3 apcs on each one. A few different varients with gun/tow..

Late last year (around the time CHOGM was held I think) I had a laugh as a couple of these passed the bus I was on on the Riverside Expressway in Brisbane. Of course they both felt the need to track the bus with their main cannons as they passed. Quality.

Look - they have spring suspension on the front 2 axles only, and shockies on the rear 2. Interesting.

TOW's? That's something I didn't know we had on our ASLAV's.

BTW - there is a pretty big difference between a LAV (USMC) and an ASLAV (ADF). Although they share the same chassis they are quite different developments.

The ASLAV on the back of the truck in the first photo is a PC / mobile command centre - something we don't see in-game sadly.

Where are these TOW's you speak of? I can't see any TOW's on those pics...

Those things need a wash :P.

i know its a aslav.. just put LAV as others would know what the thread is about.

i wish i had my dslr with me, and not towing a full trailer, i would have followed and got a snap of each varient.

definatly a TOW or some sort of laser/wire guided missle setup on one of them.

Variants

By using these MRIKs and the three different hull types of the ASLAV the Australian Army has at their disposal, the following variants have been developed:

* ASLAV-25 (Reconnaissance) - A three man reconnaissance vehicle armed with an M242 dual-feed 25 mm Bushmaster cannon and two 7.62 mm FN MAG 58 machine guns.

* ASLAV-PC (Personnel Carrier) - A two man vehicle armed with a .50 BMG M2 machine gun and capable of carrying 7 scout troops. The standard machine gun pintle mount is replaced by a KONGSBERG PROTECTOR remote weapon station (RWS) which can accommodate either a 12.7 mm machine gun or a Mk19 40 mm automatic grenade launcher.

* ASLAV-C (Command) - A vehicle equipped with enhanced radio installation and radio masts, mapboard, stowage compartments, appropriate seating and annex. Armed with a single .50 caliber BMG M2 machine gun.

* ASLAV-S (Surveillance) - A specialised surveillance vehicle equipped with thermal imager, laser range finder and day television camera. Armed with a single .50 BMG M2 machine gun.

* ASLAV-A (Ambulance) - Equipped with medical equipment and litter stations this ASLAV can carry three lying patients or six sitting patients. Armed with a single .50 BMG M2 machine gun.

* ASLAV-F (Fitter) - Maintenance support vehicle crewed by soldiers of the Royal Australian Electrical and Mechanical Engineers (RAEME) for the repair and maintenance of ASLAV vehicles. Armed with a single 7.62 FN MAG 58 machine gun.

* ASLAV-R (Recovery) - Maintenance support vehicle, also crewed by RAEME soldiers for recovering damaged or bogged vehicles. Armed with a single 7.62 FN MAG 58 machine gun.

it wasnt a tow fitout like this
http://www.gdlsaustralia.co m/images/product_photos/25mm_tow.jpg

it was on the pintle mount ontop of the main turrent.

im not sure it was a javelin mount either, but it closely resembled this

while trying to find the mount i found this and came a little in my pants

after doing some reading on remote weapons stations on aslavs.. it seems to indicate that the adf has aquired a number of javelins earlier in the year and some of them were destined for use with remote weapon stations (RWS) on apcs.

I think thats a stryker variant dude, WE wont see it in PR though because thats a mobile 120mm howitzer im pretty sure....not the most balanced piece of equipment available to mankind....

Captain_Wolf
16th June 2008, 07:26 PM
It so is. They could use it to compliment the under gunned Striker M2.

ChiefRyza
16th June 2008, 07:30 PM
I wonder if they are gonna put a Mark-19 onto the stryker? that would be sweet, it would balance things out seeing as a Mark-19 does similar damage to that of a 20mm Cannon.

OR keep the CROWS m2 and have an open hatch Mark-19 = Ownage

VisOne
16th June 2008, 08:19 PM
I'm pretty sure I have heard allot said by the DEV team about not putting Mark-19 in game because most of the other factions have nothing similar to it.

ChiefRyza
16th June 2008, 08:35 PM
just saying on the stryker, not on humvees and everything. If it had a 180 degree sweep, meaning it couldnt aim backwards, that would make it fair.
