awesome! me and my mates still occasionally get together to play D2, so we've been waiting for D3 for ages.

Diablo II was an awesome game, and I still occasionally play it. However, I'm getting really sick of having to play with 250+ ping because Blizzard only has realms in Europe, Asia, and America (X2). It would be totally epic if they made an Australia realm, but I know they won't.

can you play it on IP? Someone set a private server?

He doesn't rip his head off. The Siegebreaker Assault Beast: Living Siege Engine of Hell literally chomps down on the Barbarian's head, rips him in half and swallows.

I can't believe they are making Starcraft2 and Diablo3. Blizzard is getting all my moneys. Brood War is what addicted me to videa games, and I still play Lord of Destruction occasionally.

Its a little too morbid to discuss on the forums in detail I would think. Anyway i cant wait it looks amazing.

You can, but it just wouldn't be the same as a server with 50,000(or whatever) + players

I don't mind these action RPGs, although sometimes having an overly-muscled index finger from clicking the LMB 27,000 times per minute has it's disadvantages. Plus, you chew through mice really fast.

Good for some fun killing, esp. co-op, but I still prefer the deeper RPGs for single player.

Wokeye did you ever play the original diablo? its one of the most in-depth RPG's ever made, basically the root of everything blizzard is now, ESPECIALLY wow, most of that is derived off Diablo. If you saw some of the videos they have a brand spanking new physics engine so you can basically destroy bridges to stop players, or you could hit a brick wall and make it collapse on a whole guild/clan or group whatever.

diablo was the first game i ever played online. unfortunately the dupe cheat meant that every1 had the best gear, but it was still cool anyway cause the game was pretty hard no matter what lol. i cant even remember whether i killed diablo in the end lol.

Indeed I did play the first and second Diablos... while they were good games, especially co-op IMO, I disagree they are 'deep' RPGs. In fact, they probably qualify as 'shallow' RPGs, really...

As I remember it, you are allocated a class (one of three?), and cruise around killing stuff to get up levels and get gear. Some quest content, related to killing stuff. Collect gems and suits of same gear to boost stats. You fight in realtime, clicking to hit.

Try Planescape: Torment, Baldur's Gate 2, Fallout 1/2, Gothic 1/2/3 or Arcanum for 'deep' RPGs. Some would also say Morrowind/Oblivion were deep, but I dunno if I agree...

I'm currently playing 'The Witcher', and finding it not that unlike Diablo, in a 'pre-scripted character clickity-click on the baddy 27 times' kinda way. It has more character to it though, and 3D perspective. Those Poles sure know how to make good adult fantasy RPGs...

The physics engine of D3 looks sweet, and they'll likely add in way more quest content to give people some questing focus.

It looks fine, blizzard are trying to keep to their original feel for every game theyve ever made. Starcraft 2, although alot more advanced than the original looks like its on the same 'platform' based RTS game which i guess is what made the first so GOD DAMN AWSOME!?!?!?!?!?!

Blizzard of course has done the world bad with world of warcraft in my opinion. Just a overall waste of peoples lives because when you look at it its just the same stuff reskinned over and over and over.

Perhaps they know people are getting tired of it so have started letting loose the covers on as many of their projects at once

looks like a kids game.
I like war strategies like PR.

I reckon all us regulars would do not bad in a RL platoon

But MMOGs were on the rise before WoW, it was only that WoW took it and ran, becoming the most successful by far.

I have often thought about whether MMOGs are actually a bad thing/waste of life. I've played a few but don't anymore (no time). But for $15/month, you can play a big/evolving game, meet lots of ppl and build a character over time. They reward organisation, ongoing commitment and hard work.

I'd say gambling is more of a 'waste' than MMOGs anyday as such games are actually a fair bit more positive, and way cheaper.... Although they do use your time and dominate your thinking/focus, and there are plenty of examples of ppl taking them too far/ignoring their RL commitments.

just I have alot of mates that play WOW and I gave it a crack. Maybe its not for everyone but even though they continuously update it, its more or less a constant quest for the newest things. People spend years getting gear n stuff, then blizzard mindlessly brings out new gear that is just plain better without ever taking balance into consideration. Just my opinion, blizzard is a great studio they support Warcraft 3 still. And god even starcraft still gets support does it not?

Wokeye

As the national sport of South Korea, it sure does get support!

I used to be awesome at Diablo 2. I can click on stuff like a madman. I've clicked my mouse like a dozen times just writing this post.

Baldurs Gate 2 was the best computer RPG though. Torment was a better RPG but way too much reading for a video game. And baldurs gate you got to turn into that Baalspawn and rape everything in sight. Plus those Liches under the city! Talk about hard - walk in, they cast timestop, summon demons massacre entire party. Even Minsc. And he had Boo to back him up!

Never tried Diablo 1 or 2. Thought they were car games :) But have heard a lot about them over the years, and still tempted to play D2 for the co-op factor. Watching the gameplay trailer makes me pretty keen to try this one out. Sure it's a mega click-fest, but sometimes that can be good. As far as "deep" goes, I think I'm with (insert name of person I agree with) - Seems to me that Arcanum, Baldurs Gate and Planeside are the "deep" ones out there. Morrowind and Oblivion, as great as they are, they really are "RPG-lite".

I'll be getting D3 - for sure.

hell, any sort of half decent mmorpg which doesnt charge by the month these days is worth getting imo. theres precious few decent ones that come out and most of them are pay by the month :(

Yeah we'd all fail as we'd be trying to stand near to the enemy's flying flag within their fortified base.

Diablo 2 is great for some casual monster-splatting item-collecting spell-spamming fun, esp. co-op. I imagine D3 will be much the same, except possibly more of everything (monsters, splatting abilities, items, spells).
