Anyone else in the guild beta? I'm in with Southern Cross - and will be playing around with it over the next few months (when I get time).

Still in beta testing phase Ranky. Servers for (invited) Guild beta open today apparently, so I'm not sure about worthiness and gameplay yet. I'm guessing 'yes', though.

Will do. There's a Non-disclosure agreement on beta testers that currently applies, so I wont be able to go into specifics once I start playing - until the NDA is lifted. :)

Apparently it is being designed to have no 'grinding' to get to max level (currently 40?), at which time you PvP for progression/ranks/items/fun rather than do massive PvE raids.

Chaos Tzeentch Magus are in the release. Khorne would be cool, hopefully they may add stuff like this.

They need to offset each destruction side with an order side though, maybe Chaos Khorne vs wood elves?

I would tihnk Skaven are a better option for additions than another Chaos faction. Maybe Skaven vs wood elves or Bretonia

I don't think they will do Khorne as they said that it has been overdone and is the main chaos faction in every other warhammer game and they wanted to do something new and different, and they are right IMO.

Tzeentch sounds like a cool change IMO I normally wouldn't play chaos but maybe the lord of change can persuade me :P

Though I personally would like to see the Bretonnian faction instead of Empire.

And I would absolutely love to see the Lizardmen make an appearance as well as the tomb kings (undead) though I think they are going to be used as PvE enemies IIRC.

Release dates for this game are now set to Sept 18th! w00t!

As for PvP vs powerlevellers, there's PvP opportunities along the way - ie there are segregated areas for each level range (eg 1-11, 12-20 etc). Also, gear is not as overpowered vs abilities, so it will be based on teamplay over powerlevellers/gear farmers. Dont know about the endgame PvP though. It wont be a race to level 40 before you can 'enjoy' the game.

Oceanic server (east coast of Australia) will be ready at release. Looks to be $15/month as is typical of MMOs.

Overall: this is a great fantasy MMORPG, will be competitive vs WoW IMO. With its factional PvP-orientated late game, it may have more lasting appeal than the primarily PvE (raiding) WoW. There's still plenty of PvE too.

...oh, and Warhammer FTW.

Is there lots of grinding? Cos thats seen the end of many a MMO for me. I've already got one job. Don't need another in my spare time.

The classes also seem a bit funner to play than other MMO's. Are they? Or do they just look good on paper? Cos most MMO classes play the same regardless of what game your playing.

There are enough quests and you get enough experience from PvP that you don't have to grind. I haven't found myself grinding yet.

It is quite a 'fun' MMO, eg the 'squig herder' class that actually gets to travel in the belly of a squig, to the orc shaman etc, Some fo the quests are fun, too (eg carrying beer kegs to a giant to get him to smash your enemies).

The character customisation is very good visually, but in terms of actual stats/skills is limited. There are 20 classes (a lot), and three specialisations possible for each class at higher levels. Gear is limited to classes, too...this is probably the main thing I want further addressed, really...to increase the feeling of being 'unique' among players.

We've already got a strong following from WoW and AoC (AKA the game of epic fail) who are all 18+ and are "mature" gamers. I say "mature" because most of them are clowns and can be a little un-PC sometimes - all for a good laugh and never anything too offensive. We have a fair splattering of singles and couples, as well as males and females.

We've decided to go Destruction on a Core ruleset Oceanic server, so if you want to join us let us know.

Wokeye, what are the tanks like? Im thinking Ironbreaker but really dont want to have to level with sword and board. Are the Tanks, when equipped with Great Weapons still viable in PvP? Can they do some good damage?

Tanks are not so good as a damage machine, but they soak it up really well in WAR, and the physics (you cannot pass through other players) mean they can form actual defensive walls/screens for the squishies. I have not played Stunties, only Black Orc and Chaos Chosen (Warrior).

Damn that trailer is good, your right the squig herder is pretty funny and the 'Lord of Change' greater demon is pretty darn cool too.

So hows this work? Is it a RPG in the sence of NWN but you work as a team etc ala PR in battles? I'd love to see them do the Undead, that was my fav Warhammer army, just a pitty they dont do a DoW style one with them in an even MORE of a pitty that they dont put Tyranids in DoW, now THAT would be awesome!!!

I have a pretty sizable Space Marine army myself an i find the best place to get the minatures from is ebay (nearly got an unpainted 6000pt Tyranid army for $250!!), the GW stores are a rip-off big time!

It's not bad at all, they're just being whingie bitches like most MMO forum goers are. Open beta of WAR is great, the changes they've made over the development process have been awesome.

Beats WoW anyday IMO, but I'm a bigtime Warhammer fanboi, so judge it for yourself if you're into MMOs :)

They are in Melbourne, can't ping ther serve in game, but I think 50-100 pings for me (NSW). It is quite responsive in terms of latency vs US MMO servers.

WAR is somewhat similar to a typical fantasy MMO, in that you level up, gather loot, kill things for XP etc. It is no EVE online for revolutionary gameplay.

Saying that, I believe the PvP focus, the gaming world (Warhammer fantasy) and the incrementally better systems/interface etc makes it worthwhile. I have not found myself grinding for XP, there's plenty to do.

It has a high priority on realm vs realm warfare like DAOC did. Guilds can take keeps and hold them, getting bonsues/glory etc. This means that getting to max level is actually not that much of a driver, as you can PvP all the way up. Also, it should make the endgame more interesting, with fighting the wars.

Also how much is the subscription?
Normal for similar games - $15 US per month, less if you pay for 3 or 6 months etc. You need to buy the client.

Biggest downsides have been server queues, little bit of lag, and some early MMO typical bugs popping up. These shoudl be resolved shortly though. Some possible balancing issues (also typical of early MMO days).

Overall I think it is an excellent fantasy MMO, and with the aussie servers I've been happy to play it. The level of polish at release has been nothing short of excellent.

I lack the time to really put into it, so probably will only play casually for a month or two, then make a decision whether to pursue it or not. I prefer EVE Online to this, but it is second place IMHO.

...and for those who think paying $15/month is expensive - how much do you (potentially) pay to buy computer games each month?

graphics are very cartoony but to break into wow's market they couldnt release it on top en graphics cause not everyone can afford top end pc's AoC failed in this area.... but it failed in many areas....

okay im still very low levels... but too me it seems there will be the minimum of grinding to lvl up.

you get very little exp from killing mobs (creatures, enemy NPC's) you get most of your exp from quests. yes some and most quest involve u killing or collecting certain things but they usually dont take too long.

also there are public quests!!! these quests are like large public PvE areas where there is quest on a timer and anyone in the area can participate. they give large rewards and larger exp, depending on your involvment, and how many other times u have done it and not been successful in getting loot. the loot system works on a lottery system where your contribution plus extras are totalled up and the highest total wins the prize... there are usually 5 prize levels!

if you run out of quests in an area the best way to gain exp is through the pvp or RvR system. you actually get exp from killing other players and there are even quests to go kill other players. the pvp arena's can be accessed anywhere in the world via an icon on your hud. once the pvp is over u are teleported to where you entered from. so u dont have to run back to the area you were questing in!

the pvp is fun, and i think u can gain more exp from jus pvping. the other bonus is from pvp you can gain rep or renown points to buy better gear.... also each area has 3 public quests and from completing these there are also extra rep items you can buy!


al in all so far i think it is really well thought out!

okay AoC was jus plain shyt house.... good concepts and all but together it didnt work....

wow has had 3 yrs to sort out its bugs and gameplay issues so comparing the 2 is very hard.... but saying that i play wow from the begining in 05 and played for about 1.5 to 2 yrs.... so i can say with this release its been far better tested then any other mmo that has come out.

most things have been thought of and all the new and usual MMO features work well.... ive only had 2 days and i can say it looks and feels similar to wow but in some ways very different and unique...

try it it comes with 30days free so its no different from buying a non subscription game if u dont play like unsubscribe and put on the shelf.... thats my thinking anyway.

if your a fan of Warhammer and games workshop even if its 40k stuff you'll like it!

on nearly all of the servers that have high population there a more destrucion players then Order.


on ironclaw since changing to order i have not had to queue up to play the game. the good thing about WAR compared to wow WAR actually regulates the amount of players each realm has by giving each realm different queues.

so cause im order i never queue up to play because there is less order so more spots open to order on the server. its the same with Darklands which is the other big oceanic server. large queue times for destruction and none for order.

the same things also applies for queueing up in game for RvR scenerios. cause there are more destruction players ingame you have a larger wait time between each match. i have actually tested this cause i have a mate that is on destruction and we have tried so many times to face each other off in RvRsc but he gets ask to join a match 1 for every 6 times i have played.


i tried desturction and didnt like the characters or the types. so i tried order and found my true calling as a high elf shadow warrior. i'm not going back to destruction for reason of queue times. i'd rather be able to play when i want which is usually peak times (6-11pm aest) every night and not have to wait 10 - 20 minutes in a queue.






so if you dont wanna queue up change to order :P. if your past lvl 20 then i'd stay where u are. if your not then changing wont matter too much.

I have a healer alt, but with my Mrs always playing a healer it doesn't make sense to have both of us running around as healers :)

My very first MMORPG character was a healer and I loved it.

i was a monk in guildwars, had an epic 55monk nothing could kill me!
then it was a NEpriest and pallyhealer in WoW
and well EQ was long ago so i dont remember

i like healer classes!
