My mouse recently had a run in with a cup of Cordial and sadly i had to retire it....
So i started wondering what sort of mouse i should get next.... then i realised i knew nothing about mouses.... so if you could explain the technical stuff i need to know it would be helpful.
So can someone give me tips about some good simple gaming mouse models to look out for that i can pick up at a reasonable price and where can i get them??

What does simple mean? Does it need a thousand buttons, macro functions, airplane-dropping lasers with 1000000 DPI?
I like my mouse, even though it's 2 years old. It's simple, it works.

I just looked at the G9, for reference on how old my one was.
Could it get, seriously, any uglier?

Ugly is the wrong word. I believe what you were after was "manly"

It needs the two buttons on the side at least??
but that's why i made the thread, cos i know nothing :D
And i was thinking about getting the G9 but it scares me

G9 is simply the bestest mouse you could possibly get. Yup it looks ugly, even manly! :) But it's one of the most comfortable mouses I've used, and seriously, it's just plain and simply made specifically for gamers. Look at it!! It's not like they've taken a normal mouse and "added game" to it - it's built from the ground up to be a hard core gaming mouse - and they've delivered.
Retails new for $88 and it'll be one of the best and cheapest additions to your gaming rig ever.

I've got cordless and I still manage to beat the pants off everyone.
Though its Bluetooth, so the better variety of the cordless offerings :P

I've been pure cordless since 2003 and I doubt I'll go back. The batteries last months and are rechargable; plus the batteries give a nice weight to the mouse, allowing it to stick to my icemat better.
I'd say it's more about your mousepad than the mouse these days, unless you're comparing a G9 to say.. an itty bitty laptop mouse/non full-size mouse.
I've been happy with the laser mouse that came with my S530 keyboard/mouse combo.
Get a decent mousepad! (icemat, steelpad, FATpad.) They may seem more expensive than you'd think but they last for years and years; I've had my icemat since 2003.

If your looking for a good entry level mouse that's cheap but still has 7 buttons and on the fly sensitivity control you cant go past the MX518 (http://www.logitech.com/index.cfm/mice_pointers/mice/devices/187&cl=us,en) Prices (http://www.staticice.com.au /cgi-bin/search.cgi?q=MX518) I have being using this mouse now for 3 years and I love it. Good feel its not to big or too small good weight and heaps of buttons that are all in the right place, FOR A RIGHT HANDED PERSON.
However if you want to go all out and get a great mouse then I sugguest the Cyber Sniper - Stinger (http://www.cybersnipa.com/us/products/stinger-gaming-mouse.php) this mouse is GREAT. Heaps of macro buttons and has weights & Teflon feet hell the list goes on I have used it and I love it. If I didn't crash my car then this would be the mouse I would be getting with my new computer.
BTW theres nothing wrong with optical mice in my opinion however I certainly agree that cordless mice are not the way to go yet.

Yeah its a good mouse I use the 2 extra buttons all the time I have 1 set-up for commander VOIP and 1 for squad VOIP and I push down the scroll wheel for TS. Not to mention the normal forward & backwards functions on firefox, IE & general windows explorer.

Microsoft Intellimouse Optical 1.1A is what it says under mine. 5 buttons, great for lefties too. This is the one I use to rack up millions of kills against you guys.
I had my last Intellimouse for 5 years, but decided to get a new one a I managed to chop the cord somehow. This thing is so tough you can use it as a mele weapon when your gun jams.
I've tried laser ones and wireless ones and all that junk, but for 1/4 of the price this thing beats their asses (get a good mousepad too, I have a steelpad qck mini or something).
It's excellent for "Twitch" gaming, I used to play a lot of CS and UT back in the day.
