VBS2 is not really for regular consumers its more geared towards Military forces, our ADF use VBS systems which is a heavily modified version of ARMA and lots more indepth. And if you are able to find a copy somewhere being sold your looking at price range betwenn $2,000 to $5,000 maybe more. I would rather spend the money on a new rig and extra things around the house than buying VBS2

Not to turn it into big discussion in the pic thread but basically what he said, its not worth it for a gamer, Tho there are gamers that use it, it was designed for military.

Costs a few thousand, and technically it's not really intended for civilian use, but it can be obtained legally - just very expensive.

Much better off playing ArmA :)

Thats ok duck easy done. We are just trying to get this house in order atm. Its great to see the rise in popularity.

$600 lets all chip in....is it sharable :) or you need some kinda dongle..

VBS2 is pretty meh, it is a training tool not a game.

ArmA 2 is coming out soon anyway.

The program itself you can share (e.g. install etc.), but to use the software you need the USB plugin thingy :)

Last I heard yes you need a dongle, It is pretty high tech so you'd need to all buy legit copies, instead you'd be better off all buying arma 2 and putting in extra to buy a private server and still have change lol.

I'm pretty sure it can give you a report card at the end of a mission, detailing where each person went and what they did, for training purposes.

Fallen.

Actually ArmA is a heavily modified civilianised version of VBS and ArmA 2 will be again a modified version of VBS 2. Defence contracting pays more.

Nah breh! VBS1 was the OFP engine, VBS2 is the arma engine breh!

Seems to me all the touted "imrovements" that are in ArmA 2 are just features from VBS2.

I'm not sore at missing out on VBS1 or VBS2, according to dyslexci (or whatever) from tactical gamer, who was involved with testing or something, he said we aren't missing out on much that wouldn't be provided with mods further down the track. Besides the huge massive sprawling detailed cities. I remember one screenshot that looked suspiciously like Brisbane.

Now that would be cool, fighting down the streets of your local city =)

But the military couldn't let us practice that one too much,

We might get good at it :P

There is a Aussie Mod group, forgot the name maybe swordie will know but they are creating a map of australia for Arma and are including all major cities. its at least 5x or more bigger than Sahrani and South Sahrani combined, ill look for the screenies and post back

The OGN guys are working on this one - a few months off yet though :(

The cities themselves are just representations of the real world, not actually mapped out etc - the task of making the island and so many cities is huge itself, let alone making detailed cities. They're mainly focusing on making some key landmarks for each city so you can recognise where you are :)

Here's another one of a dam being made:

All major cities are in it :)

Last time I spoke to any of them they're a few months off being done yet - it's a huge thing to make.

Chances are it'll come out and then ArmA II will be released and they'll have to port it over to have it used at all lol

VBS2 is built for the sorts of things that gamers don't need. Detailed analysis and mission planning, after action reports - all that stuff ("detailed" like *an@l retentive*, details). It's for those who have to plan stuff that people's lives depend on. I am not an ArmA fan, but I guess if you were, had the money and enjoyed the extra detail, sure - go ahead... but I think the licences are probably limited to genuine defence organisations...

There is a bunch of hardcore gamers that have it and play it.. But like mentioned before, its not worth it for a gamer.. Arma is more then good and a hell of alot cheaper. You can get it legally for civilian use. They usually limit the latest versions for military.

You can get scripts and addons to make ArmA give you detailed AAR anyway :)

Were is the bay?

It's not an exact representation head.... If it were, it would take a huge bloody computer to power it.

That and all these guys are doing this for free, in their spare time, in between actually playing ArmA and spending time with their families.

I think we can give them a break for missing out a few small bays or towns :)
