have you got all the latest patches? ie are you ready for online play?
if you have then the next thing to do is download this mod:
http://www.gamingsa.com/forums/showthread.php?t=841 0
you'll need it to play on most aussie arma servers as its basically the ultimate mod for arma.

You will become easily annoyed and sick of it playing pub rooms just like every other game you gotta play with the right people for the most fun. I havent played for ages, been busy and going on holiday soon, But theres a few ppl here you should jump in with..
Its probably time to organize a community night, Id be in on it but i wont be able to play untill the 25th when I get home.

Hey, I didn't want to make a new thread, but howmuch does ARMA cost these days?
And is it a resource hungry beast?

27th March 2009, 09:50 AM
You can find arma for less than $30 these days, dont buy Queens Gambit there are other ways you can get that (it doesnt need a CD Key).
As for resources, its not as much as BF2 is, it runs so much better than PR for me and is much pretty imo

:O are you kidding? lol i find arma to be the most resource hog of any game i have! although with the new patch its not as bad.

is your computer from the stoneage or something? seriosuly BF2 is at least 5 years old! and you can only play it on medium!

I can play bf2 on high, but id rather have a framerate that doesnt dip below 60 than a few fancy shadows. Plus gameplay is far far far more important to me.
8600GT 512
Quad Core 2.4
2 GB 667 ram
P5K-v Mobo
So no, its not that old. Plus I have to buy my computer myself & I have more important things to spent money on.

you should try overclocking that processor if its intel. could probably knock it up to 3ghz at least. mines been overclocked by 1ghz for the past year and the extra performance is great.
Rhodesy_77
27th March 2009, 01:12 PM
how might one do this? :O
pogoman
27th March 2009, 01:15 PM
find out what kind of processor you have then google it to see what it can safely be overclocked to without watercooling. theres always guides up for doing it unless you've got a really unoverclockable cpu.
you will have to do it all in the bios so make sure your not a complete noob before you go in.
imo cpu overclocking is the best way to gain performance as i've been told that all gfx cards are bottlenecked by cpus. and if you ever check your cpu usage during a demanding game such as arma its always maxed out.

ahaha^ rhodesy noob :p you dont even play anymore anyway! so you probably forgot what w.a.s.d do lol.. Hurry up n get back on or you wont get to play before arma 2 is out ;)
kush I would suspect you can do better then all on very low with your pc, I run all around medium, and I usually run a pretty high view distance (2-3k ground to 3500-4500 air).
It can be hard to pull high frames in arma, but I find anything over 25 good enough to play.
Heres a video of a couple new weapons you'l get to use if you get the full version then download ACE MOD which we are all currently playing with ;) its got alot of new weapons to play with :p

if you can get the demo running decently, then normal Arma will be better because the patches make the game run so much better

even if you cant get the demo running decently arma still runs twice as good...
Captain_Wolf
27th March 2009, 04:40 PM
Or 3 times as good, or 5, or 6, or 7, lol.
The demo for ArmA is like playing operation flash point (The game ArmA is based on which came out in 1990-something).
Helipilot what kind of computer do you have? Post your specs and we can give you a better idea of how well your computer will be able to run it.

Like pogo said, the demo we all know sucks, it hasn't been updated like the full game has. For the price you can either just go grab it now and find out.. Or if money is a problem just wait for arma 2.

I based my opinion on the demo..
Now i can't be bothered to buy the real game

with arma, is it kinda like the AIX mod for BF2 in that you can play solely against bots if you dont have mates to hookup with (or even go SP?)?
Rhodesy_77
27th March 2009, 05:18 PM
yes. but sp in arma is bad IMHO

It has pretty much everything. There is a SP campaign, MP (PvP), MP (coop), MP (PvP with AI as well), etc. It is extremely customisable so pretty much if you can think of it you can play it.

Ok, thanks for all the help. I downloaded it and started playing.
Pretty different to PR, lots more you have to be aware about.
I was actually pretty impressed with the demo. Graphics were fairly good, I got the general gist of what was going on. If you say that the real game is 3x as good then I am definitely gonna buy it.
I can run the demo on Normal - Med graphics with a resolution of 1024x768 and not get horrendous lag. It still lags but only in certain spots.
My specs are:
ASUS M50VC Notebook
Intel Core 2 Duo P8400 @ 2.26ghz
2Gb RAM
Nvidia 9300M G 512mb Dedicated

Yeah it should unless they did something to the demo? I'm alittle surprised he liked the demo? Something might have changed to it? lol

28th March 2009, 05:23 PM
Well, the demo is a bit weird. But after all the scathing reviews that I have heard about it I guess I was expecting something worse. Maybe when I get around to buying ARMA I'll feel differently.
Can't wait to try it.

Righto, I'm going to the shops tomorrow and I'll try and pick it up from either game traders or EB games.
hoping $40 is enough. Will I need Queens Gambit or any other addons to play on the BigD server or w/e.

you wont need QG. you will need some addons but they are free to download.

Meh, I went to Gametraders and EB. No ArmA at all.
Maybe I'll buy it online if I can figure out how and if it is cheap enough.
Maybe I'll wait until ArmA 2.
