I played Faces of War (the prequel) quite a lot in coop MP and some PvP and it was great fun.

For those of you who don't know about it Men of War is a WWII strategy game where you control troops/tanks/guns/etc. but it is a lot more in depth than most RTS games, you have to manage your troops ammo, health, fuel and each unit has its own inventory, etc. See here: http://www.menofwargame.com /features.phtml

The interface system can get a bit annoying some times, but the game is great for people who enjoy in depth strategy and tactics.

The end of that mission was the hardest...i couldnt work out how to plant the dynamite at the roadblock ! but i found out how to funnel petrol sooo easy lol

I've got the same problem man I'm stuck the dynamite won't work. Strange because it worked fine in the MP beta.

There is a patch out for it but its really just a unofficial "official beta" for the upcoming patch. It doesn't say anything about fixing the bloody dynamite though.

when i finished the game like a month ago when it came out, i didint get these forum help on their main site
and for that i skipped alot of russian spy missions at the end never worked out how to cut the wires etc...stealth missions

ended up doing all of them in co-op and screwed around until we worked it out pretty fun co-op is.
he gave me all vehicles and he had all infantry :P

sounds awesome, that means i'l have to play it again. Havent touched it in a couple of months beecause i was finished with the missions and stuff. Damn the Interface is really , really hard to get into and once your into it, other games are just plain hard to do because they are so different :P

Yep no base building, it is pretty hardcore realistic. You get reinforcements in some maps but that is it.

I don't think there is a tutorial in game but you should probably read the manual which is in the game directory.

And yes it is quite brutal at times.

i think i went through every game setting, one even stated " Income of 300 every blah blah" and it never came...they left the money in usa...i was poor in holland, we all died :(

Right when you start agame click on the cog to go to advanced settings, then go to the reinforcements buttton and change it to "with payback" this is one of the settings that gives you income when your units are lost. They really don't give you much else other than that because your capped at 800 income you can't go any higher at least not with the version I have or the beta.

I played the train mission thing and man it was frustrating as hell. Not only did I get invaded all over the place and not really touch the ammo supplies as I was like what eh ehere how? I didnt see it worth the time envolved to move the dam stuff... I would much prefer an "ammo soldier" or truck to just park near units to rearm them then individual, I think its far to in depth for the scale of the game. Individual rearming and items is just frustratingly annoying!

Just dislike the way the game plays that's all, graphics/ engine etc seems ok, but I reckon it takes away from an entertaining game to have to check each individual person/tank for its ammo for each kind of weapon + weapon types + grenades,mines,rocke ts etc when your controlling more then 40-50 units. I find it the most boring and time consuming part of the game. Its very similar to a game I use to play long ago "sudden strike" tho it had ammo trucks etc to rearm units.

I find its quite easy to get into the swing of it you can now unlike in the previous games including Sudden Strike examine troops, boxes and other vehicles using a crewed asset. So for example I need some 75mm shells for my Sherman I will press X (Default examine button) on another tank, box or artillery piece that has some shells and my tank will drive over to it and my Shermans inventory will open and so will the inventory of the other thing I pressed. The only problem with this is some times if you don't physically drive your vehicle into the right so it might not work or your vehicle can crush the object you want to look at thus losing what ever else is in it.

Also if you want to place mines, tank traps or barb wire its pretty simple. You outfit a trooper with them and then right right click to place them, if your holding shift you can keep telling them to place them where to want until the run out of said item. The other way is to place one and right click drag the little arrow this will make the soldier place them all in a straight line again till they run out.

Grant the game is a micro manager dreams but just like PR its just not to everyones taste and takes some getting used to. Frankly its the most realistic RTS I have played in a long long time and its great that it has reasonably realistic armour verse size and range gunnery.

So here is what I suggest you do play a bit of the infantry single player might I suggest the Russian campaign because its the most evenly mixed campaign with Tank only, Infantry only and a great combined Defence map even better in co-op then we can get together and play some infantry only games and finally the best MP game is the Area Defence one its so much fun especially if you agree to build up forces first. ;)

With payback, you can only get up to 60 bucks and when a tank dies the cap is raised to 68 or w/e, something strange still sucks. There is an option called bloody 300 creds and i want a massive army zerg!!

Finishing the game on hard which is max difficulity WITH no fog of war was easy, now it's going to be a walk in the park.

With Fog of war simple or realistic, your just stupid. The game blows like that against computer playerss hehe.

You can pick it up through steam (http://store.steampowered.c om/app/7830/) for around 50 or 60 dollars depending on the exchange rate they happen to be charging. Its a great game I really enjoy it especially when your doing the co-op missions or battles together/against each other.

Well Men of War works great over hamachi. Except for the crazy American Sherman rush crushing our little German infiltration force, "RUN AWAY!!!" :sweat:

Some pretty pics for in case anyone is interested but to lazy to lok the game up themselves. The game has very good graphics considering that even the close ups look this good (This game is a top down RTS). Though keep in mind that the angles these shots are taken from aren't really conducive to playing the game as you wouldn't be able to see what you are doing properly. Still they look pretty :P

Oh and it should also be noted that pretty much EVERYTHING in the game world is fully destructible and or intractable. Realistic damage to buildings, bushes and trees can be blown up, set on fire, in fact you can even end up setting a house on fire resulting in the whole building burning down. Need to get past a wall? Just throw an AT grenade and presto, instant doorway, knock over trees and use them for cover, fire AP shells through buildings or walls to kill enemies on the other side. Use practically anything in the game world for cover or concealment, etc, etc, etc.

IMO this is what really makes the game shine, it really makes you feel like you are in a real 3 dimensional world rather than some linear façade where everything looks real but turns out to be non interact-able, non destroyable eye candy.

i like how bad the voice acting is in this game, but apart from that is quite in-depth and you definitely should not play this like a started RTS, i find it i have to play this game much slower, and yes like Wolf said the interface is a bit annoying

You will learn all the short cuts / keys and then it becomes quite quick and easy. If your like me you will prefer to micromanage a single unit to get exactly like you want. While you use your CPU units for flanking or blocking forces

Yeah I prefer to put my guys in small squads of 2-4 men so they can take full advantage of the cover system, I suppose that is another great thing about the game as it really caters to different peoples preferred types of play.

Oh and yes the voice acting in the cut scenes is hilarious. Though the actual in game voices (stuff that the soldiers yell in battle) are quite good.

ok some questions (currently downloading the demo, as i wait for my paypal account to be finalised) with this game how big are the maps? like are they big enough to have to actualy think about logistics? to actualy worry about transport? or? also just how varried are your options in terms of transport, tactics, so on. like could u have the option of a para drop? or u gliders? and with the arty, is it all manualy done? or can u call in strikes? also with planes, they just like the usual click and planes come in with PEW PEW PEW or are they actual units that u control? also same question with ships, ive seen a few in screenshots, they there for looks or are they actualy useable?

The maps vary from mission to mission and are pretty big but not so much that you have to worry too much about transport much, think PR size. Since there is no building or respawning of units your guys are pretty much always at the front lines as you push forward so you usually don't have to cover a large amount of open unguarded terrain quickly to get back to the front or anything. Driving is of course faster but walking is usually much safer.

The main thing you need to worry about is supplies. Vehicles are very useful for carrying spare ammo and supplies as your soldiers can only carry a limited amount at a time. Also moving artillery pieces without vehicles is very very slow. With a vehicle you can tow the gun and move it very quickly to a new position.

Having a good supply of things like ammo, grenades, medkits, etc is critical. Soldiers with no ammo are practically useless and ammo can get pretty scarce on some maps.

Para dropping and gliders are all map based, there pretty much is no spawning of additional units once you are in a map unless it is pre scripted into the map, you can't build/deploy more units or anything like that (You can call in off map reinforcements in PvP MP games).

Arty is generally represented on the game map. Ie. you find and crew an artillery gun on the map and control it like any other vehicle. Though some missions allow you to call in off map artillery or airstrikes with a lengthy recharge time. You never control planes directly, the maps are too small. Ships are not really used in a proper combat role, one mission has a destroyer in a port that can fire its guns at ground targets and AA at incoming aircraft but you can't move it around or use it offensively, it is more like a static gun emplacement.

PVP games are very different to co-op or single player games. I often spawn a squad of assault infantry with a truck, APC or IFV so I can get my troops onto the flag/capture or hold specific choke points first. Most other players will save up for the best/biggest armoured vehicle they can buy and are crying bitter tears when I take there tracks or engines out and they have no units to contest with.

BTW if you are new to the game, I really suggest you read the manual and play around a little bit before you come join us, the game does take a little bit to get used to and you'll probably play like a drunk ferret if you don't bother to learn how to play the game first and that is just no fun.

BTW guys I grabbed the Commanders of War II (http://www.moddb.com/mods/commanders-of-war-ii) mod and if we want to have a epic MP battle its the mod to have. Since it alters how many units you can field and how many tickets/points you can have to so you can actually buy the dam weapons and vehicles. :D

i wanna try some like "scenario" type games, think of that last battle in saving private ryan :P... like have some rules for each side, limited tanks and inf for each side (just an agreement between teams), like germans get 1 tiger, and maybe 2 panzer 3/4's and a self propeled arty, +30 - 40 troops w/ halftracks

while the yanks have mainly inf, with light at support (at grenades, maybe one bazooka, handful of mines (AP and AT) and a light AT gun.) and around lets say 30 - 40 inf (rangers and assualt troops) with 3 - 4 .30 cals

play it in a large urban map, have some objective (no clue wat it could be) and then have like a 3 on 3 and go at it :D

Yeah mate just go to the games directory folder and run the editor. Its not to hard to use although the whole mission scripting part is a little over my head at the moment. You can still reasonably easily edit a existing map or make one and then add the units you want have them controlled by certain players and let the EPIC battle commence. :D

BTW guys if your not up to speed with what I did there. Here is what I have done. I have clicked on Piro's tank when I DIDN'T have any of my troops selected. That is why I can see its "field of view/situational awareness/line of sight" then using one of my crewmen who I had equipped with Dynamite from there destroyed vehicle I crawled up to within throwing range. Dynamite can be a little tricky I find its easier to go into direct attack mode and have me man throw it like a normal grenade and to throw it at the ground next to the vehicle NOT AT THE VEHICLE! It bounces and often will bounce away from where you want it.

me and gunner just had a massive craving for MOW today and im currently downloading it again off steam lol, a new patch is out 1.17.5 and adds 9 new maps plus a few bug fixes

also if u want to join in on the future action MoW is currently only 15 bucks on steam and imho its WELL worth it in jsut a few months of when iwas playing iti put 150+ hours into it, very adicting and fun. also people with the game on steam, the patch is a beta patch so must be installed manualy.

The full patch (installer) does work with what you said and does work well, atleast for my version and rhodesys' steam one.
