Personally think they're now trying to much to compete with MGS etc and trying too hard to turn it into an actioner to get the mainstream crowd's dollar.

I liked splinter cell originally for what it was, a straight balls to the wall, true stealth game, where if you screwed up, you were gonna get dead fast.

Agreed. I remember playing the original on Xbox, damn that was amazingly hard but extremely fun to stealth.

yea played them all as well never been let down.

Chaos Theory was definitely the best, cant say I was too happy about some of the changes made in double agent to the general Ui/gadget/stealth system seemed a bit simplified compared to the previous games.

Hmm that interactive trailer makes me sad... look how much the 'stealth' trailer fails @ stealth. He like walks right next to two guards in almost complete light, and if that's the 'stealth' approach, I'm literally not even going to bother with the 'action' one. I don't think I'd even shoot 4 guys in a whole level back when I played the originals (1 & 2)

Gu^n3r
26th November 2009, 01:40 PM
yeah i know, times changing :(

but then again thats probably on the lowest difficulty.

oh and the silencer never worked it the first couple, it was as loud as most ak's so u would always be spotted which sucked, atleast now they dont know whats going on.

It appears to be pretty good game, its just not what I believe "splinter cell" should be.

Also i hope it is supported/patched better than Double agent was on PC, considering how big i imagine the franchise is the amount bugs still apparent in the last patch of double agent is quite disappointing and many of them are large bugs.

The AI looks completely stupid..
I reckon they mastered the AI in no.2...

And he floated to the ground when he dropped off the pipe in the "action" trailer..

So me and you could do that coop on our PC's without some stupid split screen, how awesome!

I love technology.

So I guess they did away with the whole 'aiming' nuisance. It seems now he just autoshoots anyone who looks at him funny.

Also, 'sonar goggles'? Looks like something out of Batman...

It seems kinda dumbed down compared to the first ones.

Gu^n3r
19th December 2009, 07:58 PM
well that is the console version.

so hopefully its less dumbed down for PC and not just a complete port over.

sonar goggles are badass, i can finally see through wall! stupid heat vision never worked before.

TWO EXCLUSIVE IN-GAME CONTENT ITEMS

* Gain first access to the MP5-SD3, a lethal close-quarters submachine gun with an integrated suppressor.
* Customize your multiplayer character with an exclusive 3rd Echelon outfit.

two things you get when you pre-order collectors edition, whats interesting is the multiplayer customisation part, which i assume will be a general feature but a special outfit is available to other. multiplayer hasent been talked about at all other than coop which was just released.

Yeah i totally agree, looks like an awesome game.
It just doesn't look like it should be a Splinter Cell game.

its just got to do with the story of the game, Sam has changed, hes more agressive and doesnt need to hide as much before, hes angry and wants answers, he doesnt need to be stealthy like he use to.

I think the gameplay changes are well suited to the story line, and they have emphasied that alot in interviews.

If sam was still with third echo then the game would of been alot different gameplay wise.

It looks like Ubisoft has learned a thing or two from EA's free downloadable content incentive plans -- but instead of including club access for new purchasers, the company is offering goodies for free to all comers. Ubisoft sends word that the first, a MP7A1 Machine Pistol, will be available through the game's "Extras" menu starting tomorrow. Other planned bits of content will hit on Thursdays, and include other weapons, skins, and a Deniable Ops map.

Promotions prank ends in armed police callout

A marketing stunt to promote a video game sparked an armed police callout after an actor pointed a fake gun at terrified pubgoers in Auckland's Viaduct Basin.

About 20 revellers drinking outside Degree bar dived for cover after the promotions worker threatened them with a black imitation pistol about 8pm on Friday.

Witnesses said they heard someone shout "he's got a gun" and outdoor drinkers dived behind their tables.

Degree manager Steph Kurtovich said: "This guy with bandages on his hands pointed a gun at customers sitting outside. They were pretty terrified."

The stunt, to promote the release of Xbox title Splinter Cell Evolution :rolleyessmileyanim: was condemned by police.

Senior Sergeant Ben Offner said officers could not tell the gun was made of plastic until they had taken it from the actor.

"We consider these types of stunts to be very ill-advised and have real concerns a similar one may one day end in tragedy."

Game promoters Monaco Corporation said they hired another marketing company to organise the event and had no idea that a gun would be used.

"This was by no means an attempt to get cops down there and get this sort of exposure.

Article continues below

We do apologise, we shouldn't have had guns down there," said Duane Mutu, Monaco's marketing manager. "It was just marketing gone wrong."

Police said two men were cautioned at the scene.

Well, I've hired it out on 360 and played it now. I will say this: The controls are very, very slick, and the presentation is smooth.

Fun for sure, coop is probably even better, but it's just not Splinter Cell for me. BRB going to cry myself to sleep while replaying SC1 on xbox.

I would have thought the more action to the game would ruin the game play but it actually just added a whole new element and you can still be sneaky sneaky. :D

Btw Whats everyones UBI Username so we can get some people on friends list for co-op and try out some of the multi player game types

Just finished it. Pretty good story, just too damn short, WAY too short. Sort of a mix between Jason Bourne and Jack Bauer, was actually not too bad, but it isn't Splinter Cell of the past. I don't get Ubisofts retarded dumbing down of every good Tom Clancy title in the last few years, but I can only see it getting worse and worse. They really love that lowest common denominator.

I wasn't too keen on the original elements of the SC series being removed. This is a far more action oriented romp. It takes very little thinking to complete the missions in this game. Just go for head shots and stay in the dark, get some hand to hand take downs for the uber aimbot and if you get shot too much go and hide for the health regen to kick in.

It's essentially a "stealthy" action game stuck on top of Gears of War. As a matter of fact, there is very little stealth to this game (SP story anyway), it just feels tacked on and comes in as second place to the action side of the story.

I'd give it an overall of 7/10 (SP only). Graphics are fantastic, really nice artwork. Sound is good and voice work is typical of SC. Michael Ironside is the master. Gameplay... well that's the let down for this game, but like I said it wasn't too bad. Haven't played Deniable Ops or Co-op/MP yet, so half the game is yet to be played really.

DRM... well it was fine until I turned on my torrent program to download some tv shows. After that, every damn second the connection issues message popped up without delay. Real massive pain the arse. Score with DRM taken in to account... 5/10.

Buy it if you like action/stealth-lite.

My Ubi username is Ballistic_

Ubisoft servers have always had issues with trying to connect to each other, its a real pain in the ass failure of a port from a console to PC.

we had better luck playing on hamachi, but i might give it a go tonight, just gotta redownload it.
