Its official that there will be no dedicated servers for this game... I'm pretty annoyed (wasted my money on what was promised to be a playable game) and disappointed (the gameplay was bugged extremely from the start).

some relevant quotes from different people on the official Codemasters forum which sum my feelings (http://community.codemaster s.com/forum/showthread.php?t=396 212&page=2):

As ive had the disc since lauch, I cant return it ( over 30 days old ).

Then contact trading standards and tell them that CM wilfully and callously withheld their intentions until the product was out of the returns date.

Won't get you your money back, but might cause CM some -well deserved- hardship.

Well that sums it all up for me about CM.. we have been lied to pre-release and strung around thr last month only to find that they don't care abou the gaming industry. I was going to look at the new F1 for pc coming out in 2010 but now I won't even look at it... Why would I buy a game from a company that won't even support pc users.... Wait they will support us in the way of giving us stuff we don't want.... Last game I ever buy from CM.....Wounder if we can get a class action lawsuit against them for all the empty promiss's the told us..............

Ha, even MW2 is copping flogging too, quite a few good threads on reddit bout it.

Don't waste your money on things such as this, wait for other players to be the testers. It's been suggested before to wait until after the first patch in most cases.

Seems that this is the way of PC gaming from the large developers, skimp on everything. Shame for them that we have the internets to vent and damage their reputation, console players are fairly limited in that regard. Plus they are usually younger and less savvy.

Hearts has a deathmatch mode.

lol hate to tell you i told you so :P

and mw2 is actually really good, a few of us around here was playing last night, roaming around in our party smashing all that came infront of us :P really good fun, and unless your in a serious clan, or a admin s erver, IWnet wont mean a thing to you, if your just a casual player who enjoys a good game, then IWnet delivers.

Yeah ArmA 2 has more than its fair share of bugs, however ArmA 2 is the only game of its type. No other game can do the things that ArmA 2 can and no game can even come close to the realistic simulation of combat portrayed in ArmA 2.

I have much more respect for a company that takes the risk and tries to make an innovative new product that pushes the boundaries of PC war gaming to new heights rather than just churn out the same old tiny spammy CS/CoD clones over and over for the quick cash.

BTW I am not an ArmA 2 fanboy I don't even have the game yet. I am waiting for them to fix most of the bugs before I get it which is exactly the same as what many of us including myself did for ArmA and ArmA IMHO was one of the best game purchases I have ever made.

You do realise we had alot of stuff relating to OFP2 posted in another, not to mention the whole no dedicated servers was discovered shortly after release and became very much so apparent that there would never be dedicated servers.

just thought id point that out.

glad i canceled my pre-order of the game, thats for sure.

After liaising with the dev team, it will not be possible to implement standalone dedicated servers post-launch for the game.
he should of been lasing them for an airstrike instead me thinks:db:

But now how are you going to drown your sorrows regarding your waste of $40?

i dont spend lots of time on the pc especially reading everything... as a result i wasted 40$ :(

sometimes assuming a well advertised high quality game would be playable online doesnt hold up

im going to drink some one elses alcohol mwhwhah... and wait for Red Orchestra: Heros of stalingrad

Yeah pretty disappointing. It was'nt (note the past tense lawl) a bad game per se. We had some good fun with it. It's just the lack of post release support that is disappointing; no dedi servers only being the half of it, also no new content or small patches to fix the simple bugs...

Ah well, MW2's out I got a new toy to play.
No regrets here, If I could do it again I'd still buy it just for co-op.

there's new content in the 1.01 update plus there is work being done on the next patch 1.02, its a pity there's no dedis but the games still cool.

Has it been through Steam updater yet? Cause according to Steam there's been no updates at all. All that's listed is the release.

well what there doing is making it for console games ... and well really thats what it is really good for ... pc games should ALWAYS have a server not 1 person with a limited computer ram etc to host a game were 20+ people join and makes his rig stress with the connection problems

why should it ONLY be for consoles? personaly i dont mind the iwnet system, PC games are evolving even if we dont like it. this sort of system allows the devlopers more control over THEIR game, sure might not be the BEST system now, but it is good, and will only get better over time as pc's and internet connections get better... IW took a VERY risky step with this, and they got hammered by the public, who in my eyes are to blind with short sightedness to see the possibilities.

but enough about that, back on topic, ofp dr fails yada yada yada :)

Could you explain the iwnet thing... i don't really get it? Does the client host games and then it matchmakes or something?

ChiefRyza
14th November 2009, 01:29 AM
What possibilities? All the matchmaking system does is take away possibilities, that is what it's designed to do.

Rhodesy_77
14th November 2009, 01:51 AM
IWnet is pretty much a advanced PvP system, you look for a game, of a gametype you want, it searches for matches in "skill" then for area (or maybe the other way around?) then puts all those into a lobby, then the IWnet server searches for the best suited person to host the game. then the game starts, all this happens in a matter of seconds (in MOST cases).

Well shoot.... I'm having a LAN with some friends next week, and I think Code Masters don't deserve all our money for this one.
I think it's time to start worshiping DICE for their efforts. Make an example of them.

Taking AWAY a dedicated server system and ADDING a P2P server system, isn't what i call "evolving".

It sure does, it means they can screw PC users with those DLC "map packs".

Anyway it's disappointing Codemasters LIED about including dedicated server support in a future patch, but i guess they said screw it MW2 did great without it!

My support for the "big" game companies are fading fast, i haven't enjoyed a game from them in ages.

Lol, I am telling myself that BC2 will be crap so that I can only be pleasantly surprised if it turns out ok.
