Spec Ops: The Line unfolds within the destroyed opulence of Dubai. Once the playground for the world's wealthiest elite, Dubai has fallen victim to a series of cataclysmic sandstorms. The city's ultramodern architecture lies half-buried under millions of tons of sand. The very sand that blankets the city plays a marquee role in altering combat situations and serves as a powerful but unpredictable force that will both help and hinder players throughout the course of the game.

Ok, so a city gets wiped by sandstorms and bandits etc. move in without any government intervention at all?

This game looks good by graphics, but horrid by plot and invention.

not really,i was right on the money.

not a single other government intervened? where were the saudi and Qatar governments?

the whole city would have been evacuated, it wouldn't have become a huge wasteland devoid of any UN intervention..

most evacuated, those who couldnt were protected by a US army squad led by a colonel, those lost comms with him and your sent out to find him after recieving a radio transmission of a distress call.

the place is barren so other governments would go and say there isnt a point to go there becuase anything there is probably dead.

what does it matter anyway, its obviously not realistic so doesnt matter what the governments have in it.

the point is that your initial statement

Ok, so a city gets wiped by sandstorms and bandits etc. move in without any government intervention at all?

is wrong.

the US had a squad there helping, but becuase of the sheer size of the sand storm a large force probably couldnt survive there anyway, so whats the point and it seems like a death trap, there may of been UN intervention earlier on, but now there isnt.

Like Gunner said, the game is based right after some cataclysmic sandstorm that destroyed pretty much everything and the US are sending guys in right afterwards, there is no mention of other governments getting involved but that doesn't mean they are not going to.

Sounds pretty reasonable to me assuming you buy the whole cataclysmic sandstorm anyway.

The enemies in the screenshots look like professional soldiers or mercenaries not bandits or civilians so more than likely some other powerful faction has taken an interest.

Wait, hold on just a minute, is this 2K Games . . . the same company that made Borderlands??? The biggest fail in console porting history???

Well no thanks . . . I'm not wasting any more money on fail-ports from 2K . . . general graphics will be great, it will be a fun game, but the fail-ness in controls and multilayer ability will leave you with bleeding eyes.

Im not holding my breath ...

It looks original, and thats already got my attention. I just wish they would change the name, remove the "Spec Ops".

The hunting of the crazed soldier kinda reminds me of Apocalypse Now, so this could be fun.

So wait, in that video the guy kills someone by tieing him upside down to a poll and suffocating him with sand? or is that just the aftermath of the sandstorm, because he was talking about unusual methods when it showed that part...

Kenny
16th December 2009, 09:58 AM
I'm guessing theirs more to the sand storm thing, that guy they show looks like hes had the water sucked out of him and unless that is one of those unusual techniques then something strange is going on.

Rhodesy_77
16th December 2009, 11:05 AM
or he could of been there for a very long time? in the desert.... i think thats the aftermath of a body being left out in the sun, in the desert for a long time.

Kenny
16th December 2009, 11:17 AM
If that was the case wouldn't' the rest of his body be the same not just his head? From the pic his fingers look normal not ash like his head

Rhodesy_77
16th December 2009, 01:09 PM
could be, but to me they look prwetty messed up, also it could be due to that his head was in sand (from the sand storms) hence drying out faster.

Maybe there will be a forensic investigator class in the game and you can get to the bottom of this great mystery. While everyone around you is shooting you can get out your little torch and solve the crime within a convenient 1 hour timeslot.

Battle Rhodesy, BATTLE!!! ;)

sick!

awesome trailer, looks to be really sort of eerie, especially with all the cars and whatnot just abandoned on the highways.

they captured the look of Dubai perfectly too.
