Hey guys, quick q for your ArmA heads. I'm keen to get ArmA2 etc but as most of my time will be spent farting around in sp mode flying jets & choppers (just cant get enough of that stuff!) obviously something like the Track-IR would be great but as funds are a highly sort after commodity in the happy land of Fries (full time student/part time worker plus mortgage blah blah blah!) how do you rate your flying experiences without something like Track-IR?

Basically I have a Saitek Cyborg 3d joystick which will do me until such time as I'm able to get an X52 setup. How best would I go about setting that up with the "mouse look" or whatever its called in ArmA?

Onto Track-IR, is there any difference between 4 and 5? Again I plan to get one of these don the track for my flight sims etc.

Thanks guys :hi:

The HAT switch at the top works just fine. If you bind one of your joystick keys to the head look buttons, you can fly whilst looking around with the HAT switch :)

will have to give that a go, last time i tried getting something like that happened (granted was BF2) basically the first button press would override any other button presses plus screw with the movement of the j/stick /o:

FREE TRACK!! (http://www.free-track.net/english/)

Ok, well its pretty much the same software Track IR use, its got 6 DOF ( 6 axis of 'freedom') and.... its free (if you havent already worked that out)

You can either buy a Track IR made LED setup head clip- ... or just make your own.

your going to need a webcam, and make some VERY minor changes to it, but other than that... zilch

so all up, including webcam if u dont have one, and building the rig, i would say $30 , or instead of building the LED setup, the ones TRACK IR build are around $30 a pop (additional)

some really good youtube vids here

Yes, or freetrack.

I personally havent experienced either, but from what ive heard is Free track is nearly as good if not equal to track IR, just requires a little activity.

Free track is compatible with all track ir capable games as far as i know,

e.g ArmA
Arma 2
FSX
LOMAC
DCS:BLACKSHARK
IL:2 ( i think)

Iv used both FreeTrack and TrackIR 5 and if you can afford the TrackIR, get it.

Hey Evil, how does the 4 compare to the 5?

Free track works just as well as TrackIR, I have modified a webcam and made a hat with LEDs (Going to make a clip next instead). Has absolutely flawless motion sensing and you can change it to suit you as much as you want.

Don't get an X52 flight control system. I have one and I don't like it, you would be better off with a single stick or get a proper Yoke. If you are going to be using it for flight simulator than I suggest you look at the Saitek Yoke or a CH Stick. The X52 isn't all that good a controller, its a little bit inaccurate, awkward, a pain to configure and overall cheap. On mine the buttons feel like they are wearing out, the button symbols and markings have warn away and that isn't from over use, I don't use it all that much cause it pisses me off.
