I've been watching the trailers and having a read and can say, I'm stoked on this game release.

Looks like a 2011 release. Too bad not by Christmas.

I wonder if we'll get Ninja?

Article in PC Gamer as well.

“If you look at the historical things that some people did, they’re absolutely outrageous,” says Simpson. He spends the meeting rocking his chair back on two legs, occasionally leaning in to underline a point. “Trying to fold that kind of flavour into the game is what it’s all about. So you’ll get guys like a general whose job it was to siege a castle and take it. He’d tried for six months and failed. His reaction to this was to commit suicide, which is a fairly outrageous thing, but he then had himself buried on his horse, facing the castle gate, so he’d haunt them to death. There are hundreds of episodes like that, where characters do something bizarre, outrageous, astonishing, treacherous – all sorts of things. What we aim to do is fold that flavour into solid mechanisms the player has control over.”

Could we have the coolest game ever now please!!!

I brought Napoleon:Total War expecting a lot from the hype, but really it just sucks balls with performance.
6 core CPU, 8gb of ram, 60fps constant and the game did not even use 15% utilization!

I hope they can make Shogun 2 optimized on the following:
- multicore optimized.
- 4gb+ optimization.
- 64bit optimized.
- A game engine that doesn't slow down when it starts getting fun, especially when there is plenty of PC resources left to use!

edit: spelling

Can't wait for a return to swords, bows and spears. Guns are ghey.

I'm looking forward to it though, as long as they get rid of the silly guns.
I love my good old infantry crunches ;)

It's going to be a fun game. All games are released with bugs and I've not found a perfect one yet.

I liked the other games even with the odd bugs and this one has Samurai which says to me it's going to be even more fun than the last two.

I very much look forward to it's release, inevitable bugs and all.

I've been playing the series since the first Medieval total war ( with exception of Napoleon TW ) , i have always been curious that would it be like in a different setting. So far the series as i have played it has been mostly European based , hopefully a Asian setting would be a nice change of phase

If the have the same optimisation as Napoleon or the other gun one before it? empires? it can GTFO.

Also, the UI is TERRIBLE in those two and i hate the map...the last ones i like were rome and medi 2...i hated the way the game was played / looked in the last two.

Perhaps mods lock threads cos it's easier than having to clean them up when they go bad ;)

Ohhhh Ninjas... gg ;)

I really enjoy the total war series, i mostly download mods for them to improve em, 1 mod for Napoleon is Order Of War Which makes it run smoother and adds alot of new little things. Can't wait for this next one to come out.

I'm really looking forward to this, I loved the pre-firearm totalwar games.
But I also enjoyed Napoleon and Empire, not as much, but they had amazing potential.
Hopefully they can really nail this one and bring the total war games back into the spotlight for the right reasons.

Med 2 TW was an absolute masterpiece (once you had downloaded a few mods for it correcting the Devs mistakes). I found Empire/Napolean so-so, just not as fun an "era" as the Medieval times.

The Shogun era doesn't really interest me, but if its a return to Medieval style infantry fights and proper castles etc i might get it

+1. I agree with your statement.

I enjoyed the guns etc, I myself havent tried any mods, but I really would like to try and up-to-date graphicated mass army slaughter house with swords. Ahhh I miss medieval games :P

I do have to admit that the AI in Total War has been a bit off. I've just got the Napoleon expansion and it is a small improvement. Hopefully they get Shogun 2 just right.

I'm looking forward to an improved diplomatic game and other immersive qualities they are trying to add in.

I still play Medieval 2 Total War, with the mod Stainless Steel it is a masterpiece.
I got Napolean for free and tried it, but thought the combat lacked strategy. It was just line them up and shoot. I much prefer holding with spears, then send my cavalry round to the rear for the fatal routing charge. That plus Archers pounding their general down to death.

I hope this Shogun 2 is like Med2 with better graphics and diplomacy.
The arrows look very nice and actually fire all at once and not in bunches like Med2.

Empire/Napoleon I found much more enjoyable, I guess because I have an interest in that era of warfare. This looks like it could have decent AI (hopefully).

You use a similar tactic to me. However, I'm sure the way the arrows fire is fine; maybe its the mod. Personally I never used mods at all, I found the vanilla game just fine. The only trouble is the AI when they sit there after sieging my castle refusing to attack. Or even on open battlefields the unwaivering little twerps ... humph.

Do you get new campaigns with that mod? Can I get it through Steam?

Ah yes I remember this tactic well. Hold the attack while your 3+ units of archers slowing kill off their entire army and they merely wait for you to finish.
Such polite people...

I'm deffinately looking forward to the quirkier aspects of this game (or at least from western society) and perhaps even reinacting the odd invasion of Korea with an interactive sea battle put in for good measure...

I hope the AI is better at attacking though..
In previous games they can't seem to break past my crazy wall of infantry defence tactics, and I'm pretty sure they're not that great D:
It made me sad when they never tried to use archers against it :(

yeah they tend to do that , if they wanted to wait you out ..... then why bother going into "battle". Then there some battles where they just move their entire army to a another face of the Castle/City/Fort and you have to shift yours , like that makes a difference.....

Hopefully they improve archery , especially in sieges... if the enemy is in closing distance then just shoot straight at them like the towers do rather them aim REALLY REALLY high

The AI in every total war game has basically been pretty mediocre. That's the major selling point for me really.

Perhaps the thought of creating and playing with ninjas was the real reason behind this new game...

As if I wasn't sold enough already on this future purchase. The new 3D map looks fantastic. I think I'll upgrade my video card as well.

Looks to be a resource beast if it's anything like the latest Total War series games.
