The server issues thread was locked D:
Non whine issues couldn't be addressed

Someone said something about Server 2 voip being broken.
Not sure if it had been reported or fixed yet so please be nice if it already has. :)

Server 1 atrocious rubber banding on Silent Eagle, from around 20-40 people. Will see how it goes on Wanda Shan.

Edit - Wanda Shan as bad or worse.

*sigh* I'm not sure how many different ways that this can be said.. or how many threads will be locked....

LOCKED and so locked its not funny.

This thread has gone on long enough and turns way too nasty.

YOU GET IT ALL FOR FREE

if you dont like the servers or the community then go elsewhere.
Rent a server, put in the hard yards and create a community or group of players. Prove that your way is better but dont continue to complain about something that you cannot prove.

ever thought that it could be BF2 is old, PR is pushing the engine to its limits, the current broadband network in Australia is not that good, someone in your house is using the net, someone in your street is using the net and your ISP is not giving you all the resources you want. the list could go on.


We now have big servers full of CPU and RAM.

We now have confirmation that it is not the server network or bandwidth from someone that actually has working with servers for a long time.

We are trying some other things to continue with the improvements of the servers like updated drivers, resource logging programs and even looking at trying a linux server.

If problems persist and the are NEW issues then please report them and keep to the FACTS. as much details as possible.

We know, we care, and are taking steps to rectify the issues that are within our control. Telling us that there is lag or rubber banding will not help the issue - so take Darth's advice would be my strong suggestion.

If it assists at all noddy - the lag wasn't 'atrocious,' makes it sound like nothing has been accomplished. Iron eagle wasn't that unbearable. It's no worse than most of the other servers that I've played on with that map, but it is definitely improving.

Apologies if I have offended. If there are issues you don't want reported could we have some better guidance so nobody's time is wasted.

Edit - It was very bad at times on Silent Eagle. I started playing when there were only about 20 people on the server and things such as your view jumping around, zooming not working, zoomed in once and it zoomed out a few seconds later. I was in a firefight with another squad at one point and I couldn't kill them and they couldn't kill me due to aiming being impossible (you'd zoom in and then your view would shift, worst I've seen it yet), seeing your own tank tracks in front of the vehicle as you're driving etc.

I'll refrain from posting any more on the matter though as it's not the content you're interested in.

Edit 2 - Atrocious wasn't a dig at anyone or the servers. It was simply meant to be descriptive of the rubber banding at the time.

Edit 3 - Should have added that the lag moderated later in the round so if you joined late it wouldn't have been as bad.

could you miss the point any further.

we do care and its the content we are interested in but we are aware some maps / times / random cosmic events cause the game to lag.

This COULD be server related but COULD also be your internet / the internet in Australia / the map / the new patch........... the list goes on.

We are aware of the issues and the admins are working on it, the DEV's are working on it and our provider is working on it.

once some or all of these things are addressed we will look at specific instances.
We will also let you know when we have the ability to check in game reports against facts from the servers.

Yep the extra ram has helped, but I agree with Chief from here (Rubber banding and server lag issues for all the bigD haters out there: http://www.realitymod.com/forum/f26-pr-bf2-bugs/89263-0957-strange-lag-some-servers.html I'm thinking some sort of memory leak in 0.95 is causing servers to have this issue after being on for some time. That being said, servers outside of bigD are having it where in previous version they were not. Just something to think about.) that it is becoming more and more apparent that as a community we need to insert foot-in-mouth and send hugs and kisses to poor Richard because he has known what he was talking about all along (of course some of us never doubted him :monkeyangel: :P *ends shameless suck up module*). If it is indeed a memory leak scenario, it certainly explains why the extra ram has staved off the problem for longer into each day, and I for one have definitely noticed an overall improvement in that regard. But in any case, I have noticed the same behaviour on some international servers too, furthering the point that it is unlikely to be a provider based issue.

Hey darth and noddy,

Can i convice u guys to somehow keep the Report Server Issues open? i know people will report the same thing 99% of the time and you guys are sick of hearing it. But its that 1% that might solve a major problem that makes it worth while.

I mean personally ild be more worried when men stop complaining..... But thats lessons ive learnt in the past.
Anyways please think about it :)

Server 2 just crashed 20:58 AEST 62 players Fall west.

Did server 1 crash at the same time? When I went back to lobby when the server locked up server 1 appeared to have crashed as well.

server 1 crashing was myself and richard - sorry for the no warning but we got into changing drivers as a test and things were a little funny.

Server 1 will be mucked around with for the next day or so but hopefully it will emerge a better little server.

will keep all posted.

server 2 crashed on fools road at 1.35am roughly 30 players.

leading up to crash (1min difference) truck of russians destroyed by my tank crew. FOB destoryed by my apc crew and 3rd flag grayed by my inf section. we were all one sqd. dunno if that had anything to do with it. unsure if anyone was in logi's.

It really is running poorly. Anything that could be done to fix it would be appreciated. It's not worth playing ATM.

There is a hotfix for patch 0.95D - any word on when that will be applied?

It fixes a few things such as the interval of time in which mortars need to be called. Currently that is about a 15s timing which just gives you enough time to sort out your one firemission and not much else.
Would be great if this could be applied. Getting spammed with "Mortar High explosive fire mission required" is kind of tiresome/a lot of work for the squady.

Sorry if that was ambiguously written but there is a hotfix* for 0.95D that was sent out to server admins.

Just letting you know that today on server 2, around 20 players on Wanda shan, there was close to no server lag or rubber banding, it was actually somewhat enjoyable.

Server crashed on Kashan, 23:52... I think both servers went. Haven't been able to rejoin either yet.

this one was a massive kick.. the TS server went down for about 10 seconds, and the server was down for nearly a minute, but oddly, the server only kicked everyone off and didnt actually crash

smb_swapTeamsOnStart = True # If set to True, it will teamswap everyone on round startup. Some people don't (or can't) have modmanager to do this for them.

Fixed.. ;)..well it will be at the end of Iron Eagle..

I have a feeling its just you snowman. Maybe in earlier releases but this one actually seems quite stable for me. I've noticed once or twice (especially in choppers) that my framerate takes a dip now and then - but its nothing major (especially compared to the stuttering and rubber banding that the server used to suffer from).

What settings are you running, and what are your computer specs - should indicate a prob at your end or the servers end (I don't think its the servers problem tbh but you never know).

Some maps do still have slight rubber banding but tbh compared to what it used to be like it doesn't really matter, it's always able to be played with and even if it does get bad, it's not for very long.

Hmmm that's interesting. Last night it was bad (Enuf already posted) and if it's happening again today...

Has there been any change in server settings or something? Or is it just the memory leak thing taking effect? Maybe it needs to be restarted?

It suffered a few connection problems after it restarted on Fallujah as well.

People reported similar issues on Kashan the other day - hard to imagine this map causing any particular server load.

What are your graphics settings? Where you in an Asset?

I was in the Frog Foot at the time, Was going for a dive onto the bunkers and disconnected.
Settings are all high and I have never experienced CTD or load issues.

I will have a look at it in the morning, unless you are all going to migrate to server one after Fallujah tonight ?.
I need to shut it down for a while to be able to save any changes to the server/PR App and reboot it is all.
Muttrah is next on both servers, so if you guys go to server one I will have a looksy at server 2, if you don't, I will do it tomorrow... but I'm planning on having a sleep in . ;)

Evidently not affecting everyone, but my connection tonight is so bad I've given up. Locking every second and a half - to the point I couldn't even type text messages without big delays. This went on - during Fallujah, and after 3 mins of (Quai)? I have given up.:(

You might be shaped or your ISP having connection/congestion issues?

...that can be arranged The Pr server Admin subforums is not without its uses.
There is a "Teamkiller and smaktard" thread in there where we trade details on those that set out to annoy people that have more maturity than to try and ruin PR for others.. :tiredsmiley:

You guys haven't been playing with the autobalance settings, have you? I have been getting teamswapped a bit too much for my liking lately - most annoying when you're in a working squad when there appears to be unsquadded folks.

Afterdune's AD Framework changed autobalance a little bit, I've noticed the change too but he told me that everything is working as it should be.

Its happened to me a number of times. Quite annoying.

From what I read about AD Smart Balance is that the only exclusions for team swapping is commander and squad leader. There can be an exclusion list, but I don't think we need to go to those lengths.

Perhaps it is just a fluctuating server population when I've played - it just seems to be pulling people quicker than previously. We all know being teamswapped and having a high level of teamswapping mid-round is disruptive for the game as you know where all your opposition's squads/Fobs are, plus you generally wont get back into a good squad once swapped.

It would be great if it could prioritise a little further to protect the 'working squad', with an exclusion priority like:
- commander & SLs
- medics
- non-medic squad members of a 'good squad' (perhaps indicators such as having a medic, squad total score, fobs built or time in squad, squad size, pilots/tanks drivers with high score/KDR [swap the crap ones!], even better a combination of factors)
- non-medic squad members of a non-functioning squad (lower total score, no FOBs built, 2-3 members etc)
- unsquadded players other than commander

noticed server 1 this morning had 1 player on it, so prior to joining thought I would see who it was... since when did we have bots playing??

I think thats just a bug with game tracker. It seems to pick up some people as bots even though they're not.

Also, I've noticed that after I finish playing PR for the night and I check the forums it shows the correct amount of people in TS and Gametracker.

Then the next day, it often shows last nights people before I went to bed, although a refresh fixes it.

The script works like this:

- Player dies
- Script checks if there's balance issue
- If there's a balance issue, the player gets switched if he's not a bot, not SL and not commander

I know it's better to switch unsquadded players, but repeat the above script and you'll find out it doesn't really work like that.

Perhaps you should set the balance difference to three, see if that helps? Most of the time another player will join the server anyways, fixing up the balance again.

I've noticed a difference in the teams by as many as four to five players, with new joiners often joining the stacked side. Also, when the server is full, the teams will occaisionally sit at 33-31 instead of 32-32, afaik, this is because the difference needed to set off an autobalance isn't greater than Afterdune's default value of 2.

Don't understand this comment. Scripts aren't all-powerful? Can't it do something like:
- player dies
- script checks if there's balance issue
- If there's a balance issue, the player gets switched if:
1) he's not a bot,
2) not SL
3) not commander
4) not a medic
5) when server population is over 24, not a member of the top three scoring squads for that team'?

etc - with the sole aim of keeping the core of the teams intact - swap the newer players to the server and to/from lesser squads.

Just curious is anyone else having issues with punkbuster, or is it just me? I just got kicked for the 3rd time in about 2 hours and noticed the server dropped around 10 players, (I've done the usual, pbsetup, firewall settings, restart etc - to no avail).

There have been a *lot* of CTDs today on fallujah... like 5-6 people disappear at a time! Doesn't happen on that map usually... very odd

Edit: and along with a few people I just got punkbuster kicked for 'Losing Key packets 9014' like enuf

Have rebooted the servers PB, there was an update shown ..but I can't guarantee doing so has fixed the key packets issue.

I was just been wondering if it was only me getting kicked by
punkbuster recently.
It all started yesterday around 12 hours ago.


Punkbuster justs kick me from the server
saying " Losing Key Packets....9014" :stink:


I have uninstalled and reinstalled PB
Manually Updated PB
Checked my firewalls
Checked My Computer->Manage->Service and Applications->Services
to see if my punkbusterA and B was running
I run BF2 and Pr as administrator


It was all fine before yesterday.
Never had any CTDs or PB problems.


Any help would be gladly appreciated ^^

All gau gear was rebooted on Wednesday for maintenance, Am presuming this would be the reason for both servers to go down at the same time.
Apparently the TS server needed to be rebooted 2 Days Ago 11:59 AM <richard> Momentary Glitch in the Matrix saw TeamSpeak go down, so they gave it all a restart while they were there

I have noticed that you'll be playing fine with a normal ping - no PB 9014 Kick.
Then, you notice lag spikes for pretty much everyone a couple of seconds before a mass kick. So something to do with the packets being disrupted might be causing it?

Also restarting BF2 you get a decent time playing (maybe just under an hour) before it kicks?

Yeah that wasn't a dig at the server - just noting what happened for me.
I played fine for around 1 hour, maybe more.
People kept complaining about getting kicked in that time.
Then i got kicked and afterwards i could only stay on for around 5min before it happened again so i joined another server to see if it happened there.

This is a world-wide issue caused by a recent Punkbuster update and is affecting all BF2 servers, including mods. A fix is reportedly being worked on by Evenbalance.

So basically all the BF2 servers are screwed unitl evenbalance fixes it.

Whats the go with the team swapping even when your in a squad???
I was happily playing full round of Burning Sands as squad medic in SaltBush squad. Fulluja West map comes along and I go squad medic again with SaltBusg and the boys. Hour or so into the map and I constantly team swapping me.
Its not right, I was the squad medic. They needed/relied on me and I got team swapped. I wasn't off playing magical fairy in the field.

I can understand being team swapped if your single in a squad or on your own.
But this is a the same squad, the same group of guys, playing time was well over 3 hours between the two maps.

Unfair is all I am saying. Most of all unfair on the fellow squad members.

This will mean they will be off line for a yet undetermined period of time today, I will advised you all when they are back up and of the new IP's.

Nothing has been changed except the IP addresses, still the same settings on the same servers.

This has been done as a preventative security measure to isolate the GAU gaming servers from the rest of the network.

server 1, 2pm WA time, Operation Archer, connection problems for 30 seconds effecting everyone on the server.

The same thing happend on friday on fallujah west. Connection problems would last about 30 seconds for everyone on the server. Would happen randomly during the round.

GameTracker are using outdated GeoIP.
Same thing happens with some NZ server IP's.
Give it a few months and they may update their ip2country list.

have claimed server 1 and changed the location, will do server 2 asap, have to change the server name and then change it back to claim it, which means shutting it down to save the changes to the serversettings file.

Gametracker is terribly slow to scan the server info.... so it may take awhile to show the changes.

If the auto launcher shows the OLD IP then yes you will need to update it, and the TS IP if thats not connecting either.

The ladder software is for the 10 v 10 clan wars

You could always change your host file to redirect from old IP to new IP.
Then the loader would not need fixing right away.

I dont use the loader, so I wouldn't know whats "changeable".

after a little research, its all to do with battlefield play for free, it seems PB has issues with conflicts between games.

Losing key packets is always a global prob, if one server has it, all has it. :(

This is not a server issue but I cannot find where to put it so it will have to be moved.
