Im gonna have a rant.....
Playin tonite on the server, got 30 people in on Jabal with Duen Dong next.. Next map loads and its been changed to Operation Marlin 64p layer.. Server dies to 19 people when a skirmish map and a 2km map were skipped.. i thought we had logic and map lists for a reason.. If players want it changed, and not allowed it, ahy should it be changed without a mapvote? /rant

Yeah didn't quite understand that one myself, next map seemed ideal for the numbers.

Even though Marlin did turn into a pretty good round thanks to some overseas numbers.

Sorry for the unannounced change.. but
"Marlin did turn into a pretty good round thanks to some overseas numbers." Doubt that would have been the case if it had been left on Dien Duong. And at that time of the night you usually lose a few on map change regardless of whats next. There was a method in my madness ![]()

can we put those 2 winter maps on rotation? just crave for some new maps. and Any1 know when new version or new map pack are gonna release? hmm seems not in the current schedule.

I might be out of line here - given I'm not sure which maps cause mass abandonment by players, but it seems we play a very small subset of the overall available maps - most nights it's Fallujah West, Al Basrah, and Jabal. This is backed by the Gametracker stats.
There are dozens of other maps - any chance of upping the level of variety? I'm conscious that the job of managing rotation is a painful one, and appreciate the admins' efforts, regardless. |

It's because seeding the server is a long, slow and painful process, and so we tend to play on the maps that bring in the most people (who's going to join a 5player Burning Sands game?). If on the occasion we hit a large enough player count to play on the larger maps, we're already in a match, restarting/random map changes tend to lose players, so we're stuck playing whatever map came up, and then after that round it's normally bed time for a quite a few players, and we have to head back to the smaller maps.

Understood Pudge, but we could use skirmish versions of some of the lesser used maps yes? EG Quinling? Not that I'm enamoured with skirmish.

I agree with Saltbush that small rotations are not good as they limit the choices available restricting the admins to be responsive to the playerbase.
Large rotations with a mixture of maps and layers combined with !mapvote / admin discretion is the best approach imo. Additionally I think vietnam should be avoided until it's part of the core build - have seen it kill the server too many times due to people not having the mod. |
