Re: Any shooters out there?
M-14s are alright. Shot a heap with a Norinco M14 which has a bad rep for being a hand-grenade. Early ones didn't have the right metallurgy...
Better than the L1A1 for precision shooting - mil a 2 thou off each side of the front sight and you have a real nice match gun. Quite simple to take to bits once you get the hang of them & locks up really strong. Those Israeli mausers aren't a bad bit of gear. Once saw one which was a GEW98 (ww1) which had been converted to carbine (ww2) version then rechambered in 762x51 for the IDF. Can only imagine if that one could talk...

De Lisle Carbine - 45 ACP Lee Enfield. Silenced.
Sound levels a bit messed up - autogain on my phone. Turn down the volume so that the bolt working sounds about normal level and you might get a better impression of the sound. Engineer that made it. Gun pronz. ![]()

They're fairly thick again with all the rain, we got 55 in 6 days between 5 of us last September in NSW. ![]() ![]() ![]() Last edited by snowman777a : 5th September 2012 at 05:53 PM. |

Re: Any shooters out there?
Just chucking it out there i know most of it was old discussion but, .50cals are not illegal in most parts of Australia, in NSW you can have a gun such as the Barrett 98B on your Standard A&B license. and Semi Autos are perfectly legal in Aus for people with a D as stated previously, however getting a D grade is close to impossible without jumping through hoops, in NSW the only legitimate reason is to be a Primary Producer with a pest problem that is recognized and enter a eradication program, and you may only hold a D grade for the duration of that program, OR if you prove that firearms are one of your primary sources of income eg. Contract shooter, to which you have to prove an amount of money changing accounts, which is considered alongside your other income, I dont exactly remember the amount but i think it was around 20% of your total.
Now i suppose most of the BigD pop lives in the city and doesnt have to eradicate pests, but if you have a group of pigs that is 20+ for example it would take you weeks to kill them with a bolt action rifle assuming you were a great shot and could kill 2-3 of them (any more than the first being moving targets) each time you found the group. I live within 300km of the coast and i've had to deal with groups bigger than that, imagine what it would be like further west? i'm sorry to say, the laws are terrible. For the people comparing semi autos with pistols, it takes a minimum of 7.5 months to be able to get a single pistol in NSW which cannot be fired in any circumstances (legally) anywhere but at the pistol range. if you were to set up a 'Semi Auto' range with similar conditions and rules the government might even allow you to have them, but what's the point? No....just...no. Trust me on this - if you want to look cool and own a really expensive piece of impressive looking kit that actually shoots like crap and is only just as reliable as a $500 tupperware special then go for it. If you want a really good pistol that shoots well then there are about 20 other models I'd choose first. *Disclaimer* I was paid by HK to shoot and promote the USP at 2 World Championships so whilst I love the company and their long arm products I am pretty confident in saying the USP is the last pistol I would choose to compete with. Quote: "If you have to carry it all day long shoved down your pants, choose a Glock. If you want to kill lots of nasty people carry a Browning HiPower..." 2 SQN SASR WO1 Rod S. You want to win competitions? Use a 1911 (Me!)

while i agree with that quote.. isn't the HK/USP 45 the standard issue for the SASR? i'm fairly new in the handgun competition world, just getting into it.. I'm personally a 1911 fan for all reasons including aesthetics (it's a sexy gun.. seriously.) but before now i've never heard anything bad about the USP 45 in the military world, care to shed any light on it Bammo? cheers. *edit - sorry just realized the one in the picture is a .40 not .45 Last edited by Soulrogue : 16th September 2012 at 04:58 PM. |

USP Tactical in 9mm is what Aussie SF units use.

That's a bit of a myth actually. The Regiment uses a range of pistols for different purposes - the .45 socom series is popular in the US but not in SASR. As I said, the Glock and the Browning tend to be favoured the most when supression is not required...

Re: Any shooters out there?
Shot NRA National Championships today in the 480 Match.
Came 2nd Overall for the match; in fact it was a tie but I came second on part of 4 'x' count (lost out to an open gun on the barricade stage!). Top of my class (metallic sights) using a club Ruger Mk.2 which is very old and loose. Also shot a personal best on the moving-man target. 116/120 with 8x. Feels good man. Time to get serious I think and pick up a gun of my own.
