Well since that point is personal opinion, then his statement stands up...
He may well have experience with Russian a/c.

Re: Military thread
Great find, love watching those types of videos. Have a whole bunch of VHS tapes from Time Life on various aircraft developments, pretty sure that same bloke narrated a few as well.

Re: Military thread
Probably old news, our LHD arrived down here in Melbourne last week, it's out in the bay being re-floated off the Blue Marlin before being brought into Williamstown later this week.

Re: Military thread
So the US Gov has greenlighted Full-Rate production for the new AH-64E models. They want 48 per year for two years or something like that.
From what I've read, it's basically Block III of the D models, but they've redesignated to E model instead. http://www.aviationweek.com /Articl...-01-511015.xml Improved composite blades, new engines, and GFAS (Ground Fire Acquisition System). That last one sounds badass: Quote:

Re: Military thread
Been meaning to mention, we've been having the Singaporean AH-64's flying over home every day for the last 2 weeks en-route to Shoalwater. Every time I didn't have my camera/phone on me they flew directly over the house low enough to get a decent shot, then when I did have my phone they flew down the highway
![]() They are just an angry looking piece of kit - and quiet. I couldn't believe how close they had to get before you could actually hear them. I noticed the Singaporeans don't have all of them fitted out with Longbow either. They run them in pairs one with and one with out.

That's interesting, but also a pretty cool demonstration of the data links between the two. The 64D has slightly less powerful engines than the latest 64E model (and also less powerful than the British Agusta Westland variant). So I'd assume, that one carries most of the missiles whilst the other gathers the data and sends it to the other one to hit the targets.
