The actual lag from the ping is fine, when it works there is very little to no warping, and no lag-leading (client side hit detection). They are hitting stability issues with the last few patches, they managed to clean up a huge amount of warping that appeared on the second esamir patch, but they broke something major and it crashes every 5minutes (that's being worked on right now, it's been patched back into a playable state at least).

I will probably give it another crack once the Aussie server comes up and even then...
It's still a spammy run'n gun game, it's only merit is that it claims to be and MMO however I haven't participated in any major battles that would lead me to believe it truly is.
Maybe others can shed some light on the scale that battles can get to because even on full a server I've never seen more that 20-30 people fighting over one area at one time.

The game does look fantastic though, the graphics aren't brilliant but the game it's self, the architecture of the buildings in particular I think looks stunning. Something between the Halo universe and Mass Effect.
The weapons also look pretty cool.
But I await a decent Aussie server to really have a good go at this game, I want to see what the servers are capable of and how big these battles can actually get.

Coolest battle ive been in involved probably around 100 a side (ish), there was a big group of about 40 people who were all organised, and people just ended up doing what they were doing and follow by their example.

Started with a 4x galaxy drop, one was full of max's, was attacking the "crown". gals went in with around 10 mosquitoes for air support, just after they landed the armored column rolled up, all in all probably around 20 - 30 vehicles in formation. was insane. the NC seemed to have another organised team online around the same time, because as soon as those gals touched down they were everywhere with support in tow. was a hard battle with **** going on everywhere. but TR won.

Moments like above is what make Planetside 2 stand out from other shooters. but like most other games it needs the right people/community to really shine.

It's also TRIPLE station Cash for Sunday PST time, so until monday Arvo for us.

If you feel like dropping some money on this game (F2P, so show them some love, especially for giving us an aussie server), now is the time to do it.

Bit of an edit just to hammer home a point. These developers are hosting a 6000 player server (literally) as a direct result of US asking for it. This server needs to make money, it needs to maintain a healthy population across 3 (soon to be 5 continents, lava and swamp are next). We also need to be generating large interesting fights, with coordination and teamwork.

THAT is planetside, it's not prowlers or magriders or galaxy drops. The players are the content, the game and its assets are just a sandbox and a set of tools for us to use. So get everyone you know in on this and if it fails, it's our fault.

The third continent is out, and good freaking oh my lord is it beautiful. I mean I said Esamir was giving us BIG fights, but Amerish is delivering BIG GOOD fights. The base design, all the little improvements, just everything. This latest patch, I have very happy pants about this game.

All that remains is for the Australian players to step up to the plate and MAKE this game awesome (because we are the content). Spread the word, get it in every damn gaming community you can, this game NEEDS outfits, it's being constantly redesigned and balanced to accomodate what 150 organised guys can do, and outfits are only getting bigger and better.

There are two games launched when you open up PS2. The first is a competent shooter with 3 maps and functional gunplay, vehicle combat and satisfying squad management.

The second is Planetside 2. You may catch glimpses of this game running around by yourself or with a few mates, but to properly log into it each time you should be with an outfit.

Melodrama aside, I can vouch for this games ability to deliver HUGE battles. 20-30 people in one area you say? I roll with 120 guys on my side, following one leader, finding and destroying pretty anything we feel like.

Yesterday on our 'off' hours I got into a scrap that turned into a 3way between air and armour from all 3 factions. The design of Amerish has us fighting over previous 'deadspace' between bases, which is amazing to behold. That fight lasted for 30minutes, cost all sides several hundred vehicles, and started up 2minutes later at the walls of the Techlab we'd just pushed out of.

Or you could just go to the crown and fight there, there's always a fight going on at the crown .

Also the Australian server (Ashe) is live, but currently a ghost town, as most aussies already in the beta are still playing on the US servers, as they don't want to lose their progression. Come Launch and Steam Launch we should hopefully pick up in numbers.

Sometimes we find medium sized battles but they're still pretty small compared to what you mentioned.

You mean Rhea? The only AUS server I can see is Rhea, I don't even see Ashe on the list.

The AUS server just went up yesterday so most of the Australian pop was/is still playing on the US servers. Also it is still in closed beta so player numbers are not going to be especially high either way. When the game launches there will probably be too many players and you won't be able to find a spot lol.

It's not too bad on the hardware ATM, though it depends on the particular version and hardware you have. They are doing a lot of tweaking to the engine still so one patch you might be running at 100 FPS and the next you are getting 30 FPS or less.

The fact that the engine can run the vast environments and amount of assets it does is an achievement in itself, but they still have a lot of tweaking to do graphics wise from what I can see. The FXAA in the engine is really annoying at the moment, to the point that many people are turning it off through a config edit.
