I think we need to start a nice encouragement thread/campaign so that people will start filling up the second server. as boring as it may be to wait 30 minutes to get enough players for a proper game, it's worth it.
*edit oh look a whole thread now. So to expand. I myself would rather sit there refreshing for 10 minutes, we all would. But I think it's time that we start setting a trend. Just start jumping into the empty server when the other server is full. Go afk for a few minutes while you wait for a couple other players, then just sit back and watch the population flow.

The other night when black gold was running there was 25+ on the second server, 64 on the first.
There do appear to be enough players some nights (esp the last few weeks with a surge of new players...where are they coming from??) so any tricks/ideas to filling that second server would be great IMO. |

only time thers enuf interest is within the first week of a new release other than that wont work.

Biggest killer of player count is server crashes.
Plain and simple you can go from full 64 to 20 something after just one single crash. Really needs to be looked into. I know lots of USA servers I play on never crash (or very rarely). Might be hardware/OS, might be admin related, I dont know. All I know is USA servers appear to be more rock solid than ours, especially during map changes where it would appear (me personally) has most of the server crashes/dropouts. |

Might want to change the usual overflow server to just maps that work with fewer players.

server crashes often ruin the population of bigD gaming project reality servers as often people cant be flowered making a new game when the one they wer half way thru just crashed its a shame that this issue often occurs

Please use the Report Server Issues here whenever you experience a Server crash so we can try and find root cause. Most crashes during map changes are generally client side in any case. FWIW most servers have been having random crash issues up until recently due to code issues which has been patched. Quote:

This isn't really new. The player numbers fluctuate. Two months ago this thread was made because there weren't enough players, now there is too many players.

Especially with the 10v10 (hopefully) following the world cup I really dig the idea of 1 server having skirmish maps only. There's nothing like a 4km map at 11pm to kill a server of 40 people.

i think when pr arma 2 comes out we should get a server for that even if it means loosing one bf2 server (since we are the home of Australian pr) and try and recruit some more people.
thats not really what your looking for but if more people playing more spots on servers will fill right?? its more of a long term solution. well i think so |

Another option is to organise a group of dedicated community members to drop out of the server when its full, about 10, and kick off the other server.
Works in theory....if there are 10 dedicated community players........
