Popularity of 0.6
Is it just me or has team play dropped off a bit since more and more people are playing P.R 0.6. For example, I was playing in a squad last night as the Chinese on Daqing Oilfields. The US had capped east oil field, but we had grayed West. I told the squad leader (who was a newbie) we should defend West until the rest of the squads cap East.
We were waiting at the flag for about 2 mins before the Nubs in the squad including the squad leader drove off in the APC because they were "Bored". Next minute it was me against an incoming M1A1. Boom dead.. The Squad and leader joy riding in the apc were next to go about 300 meters from the flag driving around in the open. West gets capped, then the US at East attack Old city and cap that.. We loose, where before we had a good chance of wining.. For those who are new to PR (not saying I am a veteran by any means) if you get bored GO PLAY VANILLA FFS!!!! Anyone else had similar problems? |

I think one of the 'problems' is that I see alot more newbies/noobs go squad leader and they don't really communicate and rarely defend flags.
Just don't join those squads... I don't. I'd rather go solo... |

Trooper, i know it's shhit, but this happens every time a new version is released - the first 1-2 months are almost unbearable. It was exactly the same with 0.4 and 0.5
Tell your noob Squad Leader that he should not be leading a squad. He should join a squad of [bD] or [bD]c players and follow them around - it's the best way to learn.

I find myself swearing at people who have joined my squad a lot more often and using the kick feature, a lot. Especially now with needing 3 others to drop a rally, I want my squad to be like puppies, no excuses.

I would prefer loyal but nasty dobermans to scare the baddies.
But yeah, increased popularity = influx of new players. I find it funny to watch, sometimes, some other squads on the team doing absolutely useless things. If you didnt laugh you'd cry. My advice: Weather the storm, join a good SL's squad or lead one yourself. Lone wolves have fur for a reason - it is fine to kick them out into the cold, squadless 'unassigned'. |

I was on the US side Trooper_Giz and considering the usual outcome of US losing I was a bit surprised. I'm not saying that our team didn't do a great job, they did, its just that the map has favoured the PLA in the past.
Unlike your team ours did defend and that played a big role in us winning. I found myself playing the SL role and had a pretty good experience with a couple of new players and a few regulars thrown in too. I had one frustrating situtation resulting from lack of disipline though. We were on a hill south of East Oilfield and I ordered everyone to move to the fence. I ran towards it but the rest hid up on the hill so they could continue sniping. Without any backup I got run down by an enemy command truck. Fortunately I had a good medic who revived me about 3 times before we finally took back that flag. One thing that really pissed me off about that round (and the game in general) was my tanking experiences. Quite often I will take a hit from an enemy tank without realising it. There is no impact sound and hardly even a nudge to tell you that you've been hit.

Defending is ace.
If you're any good at it anyway, its always good decimating entire squads who are trying to take a flag. |

And watching there MBT's and IFV's drive into clever traps or even better the obvious ones cause there so gun ho to die. The best time's are when you have a good commander and there's a well set up defence with AA guns and the whole sha bang.

AA guns should be illegal. On Kyongan Ni the other night our PLA team took airdrop and put up a whole bunch of commander assests including an AA cannon. Old1 had a great time blasting all those poor littlebirds about 2 seconds after they left Air Mobile which is right above us.
And yes they make a great anti-infantry weapon too thanks to their HEAT round effect.

Oh yeh, they make mince meat of pretty much anything except for tanks...though if you've got 2x AA guns pounding you and an APC I probably wouldn't be hanging around too long with a tank.

I have not had the fun with the AA guns yet. Looking forward to it.
I think the real problem is that we are all still learning and while we are learning fast those that don't join the community are learning a helluva lot slower causing endless joy for the team. It'll get better.

I have had very few problems with any SM since 0.6. Sometimes, like Rogue said, they just don't listen or understand the point of attacking a flag. People will sit on a hill or in one spot and wait to die while me as SL is running to cap a flag all by myself.
Also, your SL should never be on point but even with attack markers set, using radio commands and talking over voip SM are reluctant to move up. If you know the strats of the game, like defend when you need to and attack when you need to then you should be a SL. Thats the basics of it and all your team requires. I have never had a problem getting 3 other guys to help me put down a RP and usually we are the only squad on our team with one. Then again I only play in server 2 and probably now in server 3. Fill up the smaller server first community members and then move to vanilla mode in server 1 when others are full. Your gaming experience will improve and less angry posting. Server 1 is good for mucking around and vehicles but you can't really take the game play serious. The strats in server 2 are so important now because the smaller maps have only 100 tickets so each round goes for 20mins, a real shame but means you have to play a more strats based game and then get on a bigger map and have epic battles that last 1h30m. Kashan Desert last night was sweet on server 2. We got owned by a cobra and many tanks but still managed to cap north and south bunker for most of the map, almost got north village and got creamed and then was one second away from getting at the end of the round. We had majority of flag for most of the map but lost on kill count, a real shame. |
