Arma rubber banding

ok this has always been a nagging problem for me, and its been made worse by CW saying he doesnt get any lag in multiplayer (curse you! ).
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yD2qrH2WiuU# (watch in high quality if you cant see whats going on)
this is a video i made a while back to demonstrate how the ai always warp/rubber band/lag for me in coop missions (and btw i know this vid is taken at a distance but it happens even when they're close to me). initially i thought it might be to do with my previously slow upload speed of 128kbps but now i've upgraded to 256kbps i still get the same problem so i'm at a loss. can any1 else tell me if they get this sort of lag while playing online? (note fps/graphics lag is not the issue).
All other games dont lag for me so im sure its arma related :S

Re: Arma rubber banding

I have seen it with AI at long range IE 300m+ but it isnt as consistant as yours, your ai are like every 2 steps ok then 2 steps lag, my ai dont lag as often as every 2-3 steps.
Sometimes smooth and great and sometimes they jump abit. i think it depends on a little bit of everything, server, ping, connection etc.

I didnt notice any lag when I was hosting arma tonight on my pc with 6-7 of us on it..

Is it like that all the time? Or does it get better? Is that on local server?

Caz ive had very smooth AI on the american server i play on alot and it gives me a 150-200 ping.

So if u get that all the time and its on AU servers, thats pretty suckish

Re: Arma rubber banding

Nah mine isn't nearly as bad... I did see that occasionally when there were 8 of us playing that co-op [domination?] thing...

1mbit upstream, although I doubt that would be the problem since 256k should suffice.

dont seem to have any rubberbanding on ogn or gsa when on domination, or any other map styles

All I can say it that doesn't happen to me. It happens occasionally but it is very very infrequent and not anywhere nearly as pronounced/consistent.

Re: Arma rubber banding

Why does AI lag? Do other human players lag?

What is your CPU speed in relation to everyone else? What about memory?

Re: Arma rubber banding

well i have no desync in any of those videos. and it happens constantly, no matter whether i have desync or not.
i doubt its a hardware issue as it only happens online, ie in singleplayer the ai dont lag, plus i usually dont get much fps lag anyway. cpu is dual core E6750 and i've got 2gb or corsair 667mhz ram.

That last video is pretty bad considering that looks close range.. Under 150m? Didnt afew of you chance settings to force something.. Cant remember what its called but I was reading up on it a few days ago.. Forced sync or whatever it is with graphics card and monitor.

Re: Arma rubber banding

have u changed your view distance down pogo.... i know u play at high view distance!!! i play at less then 3000.... and i get no lag either fps or ai rubberbanding.... i tried it the other day i put it 6000 it was okay for fps but ai started to rubberband.... i put it up higher and my fps got bad that i couldnt tell if it was fps or ai rubberbanding..

i never fly jets and very rarely fly choppers so the view distance for me is not so much of a problem.

Re: Arma rubber banding

i'm thinking maybe its a virus or something. i noticed that even when i join servers everyone connects faster than i do, even if they have bigger pings (it usually takes me around 30 seconds if the servers empty and much more with greater numbers of players), and i recently read a post on the BIS forums about a guy who had the same problem, and he had a fair few trojans/viruses which when removed reduced the problem somewhat (they seemed to effect arma but not other games like bf2 (ie same as what im getting)).

back in the day when i had my single core processor i loathed anti-virus programs like norton cause they were such resource hogs, and so when i got my new computer i didnt bother with one, although the dual core could probably take it now and not reduce system performance.

so im just wondering how many of you guys actually have anti virus software/run with firewalls etc (i dont have any anti virus software/firewalls). in the past whenever i got a noticeable virus i would just use system restore, but i guess i could have a very well hidden one or something :S

Re: Arma rubber banding

IMHO any virus worth its salt will evade most if not all anti virus programs therefore I don't use any form of resident anti virus. I just scan through with Spybot and ad aware every now and then. And if something really bad gets onto the system I just reformat.

Even with no form of antivirus running actively I have only ever gotten 1 major virus that the above two programs could not remove and required a format in all the years I have had a computer.

Re: Arma rubber banding

If you are loading slowly, have you tried defragging?

Alos, since you only get it online, what about new onboard network drivers, or a new pci network card? Or, did you ever tweak your tcp/ip stack? XP?

Try Unblocka or TCP Optimizer. Do a search.

Re: Arma rubber banding

I have AVG and it does a FULL scan EVERYDAY as soon as the pc turns on it starts. I also had ad-aware / ad - watch etc. But only use em monthly or so.

I probably run more then I should while playing arma.. I really push it to the limits, Ive had virus scanning on while playing in game, as well as running fraps TS and MSN and bitcommet is always open.. lol.. I tend to always run alot of stuff on background. So I cant see why you would have problems with just 1 virus scanner if you dont run it while playing.

Try defrag/ game reinstall if nothing else works.
